I have never tried the scrubbers myself but at one point, someone was talking about trying this. No rust, corrosion or splintering. But they never reported back.

I have green pads at work but I also have black ones that are called "no scratch pad" they are used to clean stainless steal and they donn't scratch them. I'm not sure If they sell tham at the grocery store but they are black and are more losley wound, hold more liquid. I will bring some home and try that out, and post some pictures.

Kristin is using the green pad on top of the "spring mod" and she is getting excellent results.... just FYI.

LOL! I just saw this thread, too, Scott! Yep, I'm using a piece of the Scotch Brite pad as a "plug" on top of a straw. (You can use one drinking straw or two coffee straws.) I searched online and the 3M site says they are made of nylon fibers.

WARNING!!! I need to comment that I am NOT using the green pads anymore! I did further research and they have metal abraisives embedded in them!! (Thankfully, I only used them a couple of times.)

I found Scotch Brite NON-SCRATCH BLUE pads, which don't list that they have the metal abrasives!! They do work awesome with the RSP mod: Reservoir Straw & Plug Mod (RSP Mod)

I tried it once and won't do it again. It just doesn't feel safe when you handle it. But they claim on their web site it's made of agave fiber...

3m does have a non-scratch "green" pad - meaning eco-friendly - that has the agave fibers. Those should be ok, as well. You just don't want to use the green COLORED heavy duty scour pads. Those have the abrasives embedded in them.

Just be careful with this style mod (we use the same pad style with the spring mod). Some of the Scotch Brite pads have an abrasive molded into the fibers.... you don't want to use that style pad! If you go this route, look for the no-scratch variety.
