Awesome MOD. I started doing one myself and by the time I found a pen with a spring it just turned me off because metal spring with ejuice might actually rust. Smoking a rusted spring is not a good idea but I was looking around my house to find something suitable and plastic fork came to my mind. Just cut a small piece from the end of the fork piece and fit it the same way as a spring. Make sure a fork piece is a little bit bigger and I used needle nose pliers to fit it in. Didn't get a chance to test it but it should work the same way instead of spring. I never tried tea pyramid mod but which one do you guys prefer?

I just figured out something else that works perfectly with M4/702 carts: a paper clip. As most M series users know, the width of a paper clip "loop" end is a perfect fit inside the outer cart. Just clip it to be a little shorter than the inner cart, squeeze it just a little to make it narrow enough to fit, and it works perfectly. And these are a lot easier to come by than pen springs!

    All-

As far as the spring getting rusty in your carts - Come on! How long are you leaving them in there. I would strongly suggest no more than 2 or 3 days. Small springs are so cheap and readily available!!

Almazick - The Pyramid Tea Bag works very well. I would say just as good as the spring/straw mod, but you don't get to put quite as much liquid in the cart, and just like the polyfill or fluval, you still get a lot of liquid that will not let go of the material, or vice-versa...

My spring didn't rust.. it had a chemical reaction with my VG liquid.

Most inexpensive springs are going to be zinc plated.. or something of that ilk. With my specific spring, that plating had a reaction and it turned my liquid orange. Not rust.. just orange.

I have since found other springs that have a different plating, and they don't react. I have also found some stainless steel springs.

I am having GREAT success with the 901 whistle tip carts! I use a variation of this mod... the spring goes in vertically, and I use the blue Scotch Brite scrubby pad. I use a 5/16" hole punch to make the plug, and then just cut the flat on it to make the "D". This is the best that I've found so far.

I was always under the impression any filler material touching directly onto the atty was a bad thing :o

    Nope!

The polyfill tend to stick to the atty bridge and catch fibers that burn if they work their way down into the heating element. But using the right material, it's good to have it touch because it wicks better.

Like Scott, I'm using a variation of this mod. Instead of a spring I use a drinking straw and instead of fluval/foam, I'm using a facial scrubbie material (like a "buff puff") that is working fantastically so far!

Are lipton tea bags okay to touch the addy? I've been using the tea bag mod and that's really the only filler I've got around.

It's OK for most of the materials that we are talking about to touch the atty bridge. Just like it is OK for the polyfill to touch the bridge. You don't want any of this material to get down in there and touch the coil under the bridge though.
