Yes I have the 2 notches cut. My initial observations are:
After washing the scrubbie well, it is now 6mm thick so I cut the straw 12mm.
After carefully cutting a piece, it definitely functions more like a "plug" than the foam which has to be worked into the cart.
It is much less absorbent than the foam therefor it will wick less. Perhaps a "barrier" is what we are looking at here rather than a wick.
It seems to be working well right now, we'll see if I can vape the cart dry. The only problem I have with the blue foam is that there always seems to be a few drops left in the cart when the "bad" taste starts to happen.

MY thanks to Kristin and the Scotts... I have just tried this cart configuration and I believe it will work for me just fine. This is what I have been missing. I travel a lot and having to top off while driving is not a good thing to attempt. Changing carts though is not that big a trick. I've been using the straw mod forever and have been pleased with the taste and ease of filling. But the way I hit on my prodigy I only have patience to pull a cart down 6 or 7 drops of liquid before topping off.

I will try for now to see if I can get the right amount of stock filler to use as a plug. I think that since we are looking for a plug that wicks I'm hoping that I can strike the right balance to use the stock filler by varying the thickness of the plug. Time will tell.

Kevin, you just need to carry multiple PVs for longer drives. I carry a Prodigy for all my typical vaping, but also carry a Chuck when I'm driving. I hit one of them 2 or 3 times, and put it down to rest (and wick) while I hit the other 2 or 3 times. I think those short resting periods make a world of difference. And with both PVs I can drive to work (30-40 mins) and just about get through a 9-hour day before refilling.

You are right. I do the same thing now right now. Sometimes I have a bad habit of hitting one too hard so I have to switch to another one while the atty cools off on the first one. I'm waiting for my PS PT to ship right now. Then I'll have another PV to use as backup.

But this cart mod will really help by not having to attend to a cart as often as I do now. I already have enough battery life this should give me more cart life.

Well, I just finished my first cart full. I stopped vaping at the point I normally do because the vapor was dropping off. I could have gotten more out of it but why? I like performance. Anyway I vaped 13 drops out of the cart and had good vapor all the way. That's never happened before. This mod looks to be a big imporvement over the standard straw mod. It is easy to get the filelr plug out with just a paperclip and fill it right up. All's good so far.

I guess I hadn't been paying attention to this thread for a day or so.... my bad!

My local Menards didn't have the blue pad that Kristin indicated... but I found it at the Walmart right next door. Hate shopping at Walmart.. hate it! I hate it even more when I only have this one thing to check-out with!

Anyway.... the 8mm thick blue pad performed a little differently than my 5mm thick green 96 pad does/did. Not enough to get excited about.. just a little bit different.

BUT... it did lead me to a revisited observation that most of you probably know.. but some don't:

If you do this mod and you get a dry and burnt tasted after about 10 hits (atty starving for liquid), trim about a mm off of your straw and try again. Your pad is probably getting compressed too much and when this happens, it doesn't feed the liquid as well (for a quick test, just pull your cartridge out about a mm or so and see if the vapor production picks up.. adjust until you find the "sweet spot".. and that's how much you should trim off).

If you are constantly getting a flooded atty, try increasing the length of your straw a mm or so. You will get the opposite effect to the one noted above.

I think this is a slick feature of this mod, allowing us to almost precisely regulate how much liquid we want to have fed to the bridge.

I am throughly impressed now. On my 3rd refill I put in 18 drops. There wasn't a drop left, even the plug was bone dry.

I don't normally vape like this at home but I was busy doing something I wasn't paying much attention to what the e-cig was doing until the vapor quit. I pulled the cart and found the filler plug on top was bone dry. Then I pulled the plug and saw nothing but plastic.

So I can say without a doubt that this cart system really works. So now I have to pull it apart and take measurements to I can replicate it. I can't believe that I hit the perfect stock filler plug size on the first try. I thought I would have to experiment some before getting one that worked but didn't leak into the atty. The cart wicked better than my cart with the straw mod and it did it almost until the end.

Now to travel, all I have to do is keep several of these loaded and ready to go. Swapping carts while driving is no problem in lite traffic.

That's exactly what I am doing now. For the very first time, I'm actually using the PCC in the way it was intended to be used! It has a battery in it, the spare atty, and two pre-filled carts with this mod. Cartomizer-easy with the 510 performance! Tres kewl!

I'll bite on this mod. I tried to find the blue scubby pad but no luck. Tomorrow I'm going to HD to see if the have them. Wish me luck.

I got the straws today. I vape too much for the stock cartridge media. This sounds like the ticket.
