The inverted "V" arch is easy and it works well - no collapse. I think because it leaves enough straw material to hold it up?

Also, does the spring get compressed when you put the cart on the atty then? Meaning, it then pushes out against the bridge when in place, basically pinching the pad between the spring and the bridge? Have you tried this on a regular 510 cart yet? (Since so many people use the 510, it'd be nice to find a consistant mod for the 510, too!)
    Kristin,

The spring always keeps the pad pressed against the bridge of the atty. And yes, the spring does compress a bit.... pinching the pad and squeezing it. The amount that it is pinched and squeezed controls how much liquid will flow through it. The more you squeeze the pad, the less the liquid will flow.

I used this same mechanism and mod on a standard 510 cart some time ago.. but haven't revisited it recently. It should work the same.... although I find it to be just a little bit tougher to make the plugs for the 510.

Did I answer your questions.. or did I not understand them?

I have tried a lot of the mods on here, and so far this has been the best experience I've had with vapin'. One thing tho is I've tried with the BP material and it just didn't work for me. Too much fussin' with an over sized pad trying to get dimensions right. I've found with the scotch brite no scratch pads that there are layers as described with the BP stuff. you just have to spread it apart a little and there they are. also, when you first wash out the pad and let it dry, it does tend to shrink a bit but when turned to the side like the BP its just the right size for the 510's cart. so far I've vaped all my carts dry, and its worked on thick and thin juice.

I'm gonna try the new refill mod but I really havent had too much fuss with pullin filler out. I took a Chaps male manicure set and converted it to hold some extra batts, attys, and a set of tweezers. I just take filler out set in case, fill, and put back in cart.

Anyways, I wanted to say thank you for all the work that has been done. Also on the new straw mod with just the legs and the o-ring, I would think the legs would buckle if not cut exactly to right length. I remembered back when you guys were talkin bout having just a ring in the cart and I tried that with a fast food straw. i cut maybe 2 to 3mm off the top of the straw, then snipped it so i could roll it to the size of the top of cart and so it would lay on the ledges, filled and put filler on top. it worked but after a few times it would grab on the filler and come out with it, or it would compress a lil and get shoved in the cart a bit... if it was a complete circle without the snip i think it could work or if i would glue it in place it would work... i didnt have any leaks.

    well thanks again,
    Marko
I'll have to revisit the blue pad. I couldn't find the layers.

One thing to make the BP easier is to use a scissors and cut off a 4mm strip. Much easier to work with then.

P.S. I'm off on a tangent right now... trying to machine up a cartridge that resolves the "difficulty in refilling" challenge that is associated with this and other "plug style" mods.

But.. between the Packers game, NASCAR, and a 7 year-old daughter. Well..... I have priority issues!

Crap, am I missing the Packer game?? LOL

Hubby is out hunting today - opening weekend and all! Haven't heard this much gunfire since I lived in Milwaukee!

And I have to go buy a turkey!

Yes Scott - that answered my question.

Wouldn't you be able to cut the plug the same way and just trim a flat piece off two sides, instead of one? Or is the diameter of the 901 that different?

This "inverted V" straw is working pretty well today!

I think you're right on that one.... I'll take a look. The difficulty was probably only in my imagination.

I have been trailing along with this thread. I don't have a Walgreens, so I used the straw/blue scotch pad and made adjustments for an 801..

Using the inverted V straw seems to be working better for me than the Spring /Plug mod I was trying.

    One worry I have:
I use a silver bullet at home and tend to stand it on end and wander off, leaving it to fend for itself.

I have "come back" several times and have juice dribbling from the bottom of the atomizer and pooling on the SB. Aack! (I am using the full thickness of the scotch pad and my juice is super thick VG)

Do I need to take apart the atomizer and cart anytime I leave it for an extended time? I'd hate for this to dribble in my handbag or car seat.

This dribbling issue has made wary of taking this mod on the road.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks for all the great experimenting! I'm glad I'm not the only one out here playing with a box of straws!!

I'm sorry, I misspoke. The plug is actually 5 x 8, exactly 1mm larger than the cart on both sides. I want a little compression to safegard against leaks. The cart is really working good too.

I've adjusted my juice mix and have tamed the harshness at 5 volts. It wasn't the cart at all it was the juice. I reduced the PG and PGA. Now the only problem I have is overheating the atty because I am vaping too hard.

Well.... that last night I found some time and fired up the lathe. I cranked out two creations.

One is the "super tanker", which is a spring-and-pad based cartridge that holds about 75% more liquid than a standard 901 cartridge. That one worked out perfectly and will become my standard cartridge for my daily at-work vape.

The second project was a "quick flip" spring-and-pad cartridge that allows you to recharge quickly through the mouthpiece end without removing the cartridge from the atomizer. It was somewhat predictable... but it is/was a dismal failure. Once you break the vacuum on the "back side" of the pad, the entire contents of the cartridge will run right through the pad into the atomizer.

Oh well...... it was fun anyway!
