Awesome thanks for this!!! I am using this mod right now in a 901 whistle tip. I had to cut the stirrers in half, and I used blue foam, but it's working awesome! I had vg liquid from cignot which wasn't wicking all that well and would burn the polyfil. This has (so far) fixed this issue and I can enjoy it better!Yes, that's why I make a notch in the middle of the stirrers.
To steal Kristin's drawing, I do this:
The straws I bought were too big for the 901 whistle-tip. They were the flexible straws recommended earlier in the thread.

I have to say, this mod is still working great!
The atty stays just a little wetter, so it gurgles just a bit, but not to the point of flooding. And I finally got to use the blue scrubbie pad and it's working like a champ - no funny taste! The key is to make sure the plug is a tiny bit wider than the opening - but not too much. They are already the perfect height as is. Cut a piece that is almost the exact size of the cart mouth - too much and it traps the liquid.
The cart is always empty when the atty starts to go dry. The only downside is not being able to refill through the plug - have to remove the plug to refill. But the trade off is not having to top off constantly!

OK, I'm not so enamored with the stirrers. They're too small to let the liquid flow through.
My atty wasn't wicking right, and I knew that I had juice left. The filler plug was fairly dry, and a bit too low, so I thought that I had cut the stirrers a little too short. I pulled them out to make longer ones, and both stirrers had drops of juice stuck in the middle. Those drops would not come out, even when shaking them.
I'm off to find thinner straws - or thicker stirrers. The straws that I have will not fit my 510s.
The bendable straws I picked up at Walmart were the perfect size for my 510 - fits both the whistle tips & round tips. They are just big enough that you squeeze them just a bit to fit. They are an oval shape once placed in the cart. (See picture - it's not perfectly round in the cart.) The pressure keeps them from falling out, too. I put the plug in FLUSH with the top of the cart, not set back into it. The bridge forms a dent in the blue pad, so the filler surrounds it a bit. The blue pad doesn't get hooked on the bridge or leave fibers and it's just the right thickness and the straw keeps the bridge from pushing the plug into the cart further.

I've decided the polyfill works in a pinch, but it's not springy enough to act as a good plug. If you cut the blue pad slightly larger and squeeze it in, it naturally tries to expand and fits snugly. But the key is not TOO big. The polyfill just seems to want to fall out - especially as it dries.

Excellent! I'm excited about trying it out exactly like this on my 901. I'm not sure I understand the reason for the notch in the straw by the mouthpiece of the cart, though. Did I miss that explanation earlier in this thread?
Look at the pic in the first post of the thread. No notch at the top. The later pic is another member's suggestion when using two coffee stirrers instead of a single drinking straw. No need for the top notch when using a single drinking straw.

I also noticed this mod works best if you keep your PV LED-side down when not in use. Because the pad is not as absorbant, the liquid returns to the reservoir if you hold it LED-side up a lot! Still getting used to having to keep tweezers nearby!
There seems to be no rhyme or reason with this. Sometimes it works perfectly, sometimes it doesn't. At it's worse it's far better than any other cart mod I've tried. A couple of things that seem to help are to cut the straw exactly 1 1/2" and to tap the cig, LED side down, on your hand once in a while to make sure that the liquid isn't stuck at the mouthpiece end due to a vacuum. We are almost there! There has to be some way to make sure that the liquid consistently flows to the plug.
