The key to battery life is consistency in use from the moment it is first "trained" or programmed.
Does this apply to lithium ion batteries?

As far as I know It applies to all batteries. My laptop is lithium ion and I leave it plugged in to a.c. constantly until I need to travel. Then plug it back in and it charges full and stays there until needed.

Default About those Batteries

This may shed some light on the subject for you from Battery Univeristy:

"Preparing new lithium-ion for use

Unlike nickel and lead-based batteries, a new lithium-ion pack does not need cycling through charging and discharging. Priming will make little difference because the maximum capacity of lithium-ion is available right from the beginning. Neither does a full discharge improve the capacity of a faded pack. However, a full discharge/charge will reset the digital circuit of a 'smart' battery to improve the state-of-charge estimation"

...From Charging lithium-ion batteries Hope that helps also--Sun
PS---our batteries do not like to be constantly discharged and love to be topped off as you will read..

I stand corrected. I did'nt realize Dura batteries were Li/Ion. I humbly defer. but I agree that maintaining a full charge sounds like a good idea provided the charger shuts of at 4.0v or so. Good lookin' out Sun, great info link.

True but whats really under the hood !

True but besides the Logo whats under the hood !

Thanks

Ok I took your advice Parked and emailed Joyetech to find out what the difference is. According to them the Dura & 510 are identical aside from a slight difference in appearance, there is no difference under the hood.

Here's the reply they sent me:

Dear Tom,

Thanks for your question. I'g glad to tell you that they are identical as you said, the only difference between them is that there is a bit of different appearance.

I hope my answer will help you not to be confused by that any more.

Best regards

After some research I retract my statement regarding keeping a battery at full charge of 4.0v.
The time at which the battery stays at 4.20/cell should be as short as possible. Prolonged high voltage promotes corrosion, especially at elevated temperatures. Spinel is less sensitive to high voltage.(opposed to cobalt).

-3.92V/cell is the best upper voltage threshold for cobalt-based lithium-ion. Charging batteries to this voltage level has been shown to double cycle life. Lithium-ion systems for defense applications make use of the lower voltage threshold. The negative is a much lower capacity.

For more info go to the link Sun provided.

Well it certainly appears to cut through the marketing hype a bit. Gives people more options if they want to try this device anyway.

I'm reading on other threads that Janty Dura carts DO fit the 901, so I am officially confused.
