tar is a byproduct of the chemical reactions that take place during pyrolysis (the burning) of tobacco. The differences between Destructive distillation and Distillation are worlds apart. What we're really talking about here is extraction. Since the tobacco is not destroyed, and is incapable of reaching pyrolysis while suspended in water, the chance of getting tar is--as I understand it--impossible.

What is possible is that bits of tobacco seep through during the filtering process and are burned with the liquid. But even then, the health benifits of nicotine liquid--even less than perfect pharmaceutical grade liquid--outweigh the risks of lighting up and inhaling pure tobacco undergoing combustion. imo.

most smoke contains tar. Wood smoke, coal smoke, tobacco smoke, et al.

As for making your own e-liquid, you really only need a pot with a cover and a stovetop. coffee filters for straining.

Allright, I just ordered some lab glassware and an x-fine vacuum filter. When I receive it, I'll try cooking up a second batch of the tobacco stock.

As for the smoke flavor. Collecting the smoke like bongwater seems to produce tar - at least the way the youtube video shows it. In fact, if tar is the result of burning tobacco, I wonder if there is *any* way to get the smoke flavor without the tar. I'll look at eHow too.

Also, boiling ALL of the liquid out, to see what's left, is an excellent idea. I'll do that and report back on that as well.

If you've never read the thread on "crack nicotine," do so now. It's very informative, a "hoot" as Woody commented. You'll learn a lot. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/php...+nicotine#p367

Looks like that pretty much answers the "How to extract" nicocrack question. Very informative TB; my hat's off.

I wonder how well the Brita water filters would work? I've bought tons of bickords and am ready to start experimenting.

were you able to find them locally or did you buy online? i am trying my hardest to find locally. Finding a nationwide food store that carries it would be great!

I guess you are asking about Bickford's. I bought it by phone and they shipped it. I could not order online because I'm in Canada. I got it within 5 days, excellent service and tastes great.
