Thanks monkey, I bought two bottles of the glycerin (2.99 a bottle 2oz each) I just added a drip to see what happens, lots of vapor, is the answer, slight sweet taste (might be left over from what was in it before) no distinguishing taste. I know you mix it with other juices or flavors, that will be my next step. Only prob is...I am in Mc Cormick land right now and unless I buy them online, I only have Mc Cormick Favs to pick from and I thought that everyone agrees don't use McCorm.
Wait. Where have you seen not to use McCormick? I don't recall seeing that. I have tried their vanilla and coconut extracts, and I never noticed any issues, though it hasn't been a habit. I even vaped pure vanilla extract once.
Have I missed something?
Tex
[ I used to be very indecisive, but now...I'm not so sure.] :pervy:
I've never tried it myself so I don't know for sure but I read somewhere a while back that McCormicks flavourings clogged atomisers. This might not be reliable so if you've had no trouble maybe it's ok.
It would be worth checking ingredients for oils, sugars and colourings, they might cause problems.
Is Glycerine totally safe for the health ?
And what about if they start putting tar or lead ot things to make people addictedt o e-cigarette to sell loads of refills and make alot of money ?
Thank you Tropical Bob and Dazzer for your replies regarding the Acrolein. I did a lot of reading today on the topic and I believe the misinformation lies with Wikipedia. I was looking at Patented methods of changing Glycerin to Acrolein and it seems that you need a catalyst to make the conversion efficient not just heat and Glycerin. Also the conversion will only be around 1% of total glycerin at 280 and 400 will give about 60% conversion. According to e-cig the site that ships forever in FAQ they mention their atomisers heat to between 300 and 400 degree celcius. So heat is right Glycerin is there but no catalyst so I guess no worry. Well I know you keep mentioning the NZ report TB but it's not really relavent to Glycerin because they're using Ruyan products which claims to be ultrasonic for one and may not get near hot enough and two their recipes contain non or only small amounts of Glycerin. But yeah I think is safe now.
Hi Kent, the acrolein issue was discussed also on this thread - Vegetable glycerine (glycerol) - safety discussion
I was a bit concerned about it too and did some reading but I'm happy that it's ok, at least on that front.
The lab that tested Wicked juice recommended that Pillbox look into changing the propylene glycol ingredient to glycerine because they believe it's probably safer.
Correct. The lab RECOMMENDS substituting glycerine for PG. That thread in Health that Kate points to is the single worst on the entire forum, IMO. I hate it for its massive misinformation and troubling accusations without foundation. It should have been removed long ago.
No e-cig that any of us know of uses ultrasonic atomization. While I don't own a Ruyan (I have a Janty), I'm pretty darn sure Ruyan uses a heating element to atomize liquid, just like all the rest. My Janty does. The New Zealand tests apply to virtually everything about e-smoking, although they are brand-specific. Those tests are almost our sole comfort in the safety of our practice.
FYI: Glycerine is definitely on the sweet side. No discernible taste, but it adds sweetness to the flavor being inhaled. Very, very nice stuff.
Thanks I did see the other thread but seeing I first posted my concern here didn't want to leave it hanging nor go put more smoke on the other thread. I am also smoking Glycerin at about 25% mix with 25% PG to 36MG Camel juice and it tastes very smooth and blows better smoke so I am happy. Maybe one day Ruyan will come down with their prices then somebody can post a breakdown of their atomiser on this forum unless i am sleeping again and that has also already been done.
More info on Glycerin, specifically the Humco seen at walmart. The CAS number is 56-81-5 after doing a search i found the following useful information http://www.inchem.org/documents/sids/sids/56815.pdf (warning PDF link)
thats more information then you ever wanted to know. checking that CAS number against other known vegetable based glycerin affirms that it should be vegetable based glycerin, at least as far as i understand the CAS number system.
