Menthol Drops Recipe for Menthol Lovers

Hello...I'm new to all this and afraid to mix my own..lol. I love menthol but i'm still a bit disappointed bec the mint/menthol juice i got had a stronger alcohol taste than the menthol. now, my mind isn't taking in the recipe to make menthol e juice using the crystals. lol. so, my question is...if i buy menthol liquid drops (only bec i'm lazy), will this have the same effect as the crystals? second, if i do make my own juice, i saw that there is a flavorless one with nicotine strengths. but on the other hand, there is also a tobacco e liquid. will the tobacco e liquid plus menthol drops be like more of a menthol cigarette? or will the flavorless one still get me that taste? if i get a non-pg menthol e liquid, and want a stronger menthol taste, can i just add the menthol drops?

these are some of my concerns. I'm not too fond of the alcohol taste, so maybe a non-pg will solve this problem? what do you think?

Lot's of questions newbie, but I'll try to help.

First of all, don't feel like you have to mix your own anything. Some people here live to mix their own flavors. Others have never done it, and have no desire to ever try. Much more than smoking, vaping is a very personal experiene, and enjoyed very differently by different people. In time you'll find your own way of enjoying your new found hobby. Yes, I did say hobby.

As for making the menthol drops, I started out buying the drops from Juicy Liquids and have been very happy with them. You use so little of the drops and they're cheep, the biggest reason for mixing your own is because you want to. At least that's the reason for me. I much prefer the drops over crystals simply because you can accurately measure drops. Crystals come in different sizes and aren't as easy to measure in exact quantities.

As for the menthol cigarette juice. most of what I've tried are basically menthol or mint flavored, but don't have any tobacco flavoring to go along with them. To me that's more like a vaporized dinner mint. BTW menthol and mint are NOT the same thing.

If your new to this whole thing and not sure about mixing your own, then I'd suggest one of two options. I started out with a good marlboro and added about 1.5 - 2 drops of menthol per ml to get the flavor I wanted. Both Fresh Smoking and E-smokey-treats have good reputations for marbro flavors, but there are many others to try as well.

The second option, and what I currently am using is the e-smokeytreats menthol. It's one of the few that actually has a tobacco base to it's menthol and IMHO is very good.

Why am I interisted in mixng when I have a flavor I am happy with? Well,,,,,,,,,,two reasons. One, it's just plain fun. Two, If I can get a mix that I actually like, I stand to save a considerable amount of money over time mixing my own, compaired to buying regular juices. How much money I'll burn through in my quest of the "perfect mix" remains to be seen.

As for PG vs Non PG, personally, I'd stick with the PG for two reasons. First, your looking for a menthol. By definition, your looking for a throaght hit if your looking for a menthol. Non PG usually don't give you as much of a throaght hit. The second reason is that VG is hell on your atomizer. Again, this is a personal prefference, and I'm sure others here have a different view than I do, but the only time I'd use a Vg is when I didn't want a throaght hit like with some of the dessert flavors such as cherry, cheese cake, ice cream, and such.

I found the everclear grain alcohol here in Arizona (I wasn't sure if it was legal here, as I hear you can't buy it everywhere?). It was on the bottom shelf under all the good stuff. Worse case is I use the rest of it to clean some atomizers and make Jello Shots at Christmas to get through the holiday with the relatives, lol.

If you are lazy like me you could always try the liquid breath drops that people are talking about. They are at discount stores, liquor stores, convenience marts and are only about .75 each. Very minty... ingredients seem to be fine (have coloring, but most say they're no worry and you are using a very small amount). I'll be looking for those next.

This thread is exactly what I've been looking for - a recipe to make my own menthol, some tips on suppliers, and a few quick-mix ideas to get me by until I can get all of the ingredients and have the time and ambition to make my own ... ambition being the key. Thank you, mamu, for the recipe, proportions, detailed instructions, and Ebay buying tips.

I'm also going to check out the Mountain Rose Herbs supplier that Babachoo mentioned (bless you). In the meantime, I found that there are not one, but two Tractor Supply stores near where I live where I can get some PG, which I couldn't find anywhere. Let's see ... which direction do I want to drive tomorrow? I'm just about giddy right now.

I had bought a bunch of 36mg. juice flavors with the intention of cutting them down, and I was able to find some VG locally, but I didn't care for it. Now I'm out of both medium and high strength juice, and down to about two dozen bottles of various flavors - but all 36mg., which is a little much for my taste. So I'll be glad to pick up that PG tomorrow.

Goldengirl, I had read a tip about mixing 555 with various flavors to mellow them out, etc., but I've been trying (unsuccessfully, so far) to come up with a menthol taste that I like out of store-bought juices. I've been tinkering with it EVERY day, and getting frustrated, and am really glad to read the Hilton/Menthol mix tip. I have some Hilton, and will give that a try. Do you mix them 50/50? I've been making this mix-ology way too difficult. I even added Vanilla Ice Cream to Menthol, and a dollop of Chocolate, and a few drops of 555 ... all trying to get away from the cough-drop taste, and make it into something that more resembled a menthol light cigarette taste.

I've bought 18 mg Hilton. I just add 1 drop of menthol drops to each ml of the Hilton liquid.

If I have a 20 ml bottle of Hilton, I add 20 drops of the menthol mix. Shake it up and I'm good to go.

If you are going to cut down Hilton liquid in nic strength by diluting it with VG or PG, you'll lose some of the Hilton flavor.
