how strong is the menthol flavor with the 1ml menthol to 1ml e-liquid ratio? I'm a former newport smoker and I don't want an overpowering menthol flavor.
My crystals should be here today so thanks for the recipe.

It's hard to answer that question because everyone would probably tell you something different.

The ratio works great for me - if I need to kick it up a bit, then I just add a few more drops.

BTW: it's 1 drop menthol mix in 1 mL liquid.

Start with 1 drop menthol mix per 1 mL liquid, then adjust as needed.

This looks easy! Thanks for posting this mamu. Was looking for exactly this!

From the sounds of it, 1 drop of menthol liquid to 1ml of juice must be like adding rocket fuel to it. No wonder why your eyebrows singed off vaping it straight.

Can this be added to any flavor? I have a 30 ml bottle of tobacco I don't use because I don't care for the taste. I find my throat hit is best with menthol.

    Should 3 pounds be enough?

Adding menthol to any flavor is sorta like adding salt to your food. I may add salt to something that you wouldn't, or may use more or less than you would on my potatoes. 1 drop per ml is a good starting point, but every one will have to adjust to their own taste. Just like salt, there is no "rule", just a preference.

Start with a conservative amount, then adjust to your own taste. Me personally, I like about 2 drops per ml in my tobacco juices, but others find that too strong.

As for other flavors, again, personal choice. Some people like mint chocolate, me personally, I can't stand it. It's all about what you like. If you'd like menthol added to a food flavor, then you'd probably like it in a juice. Experiment and have fun. That's what makes vaping so much more fun than analogues.

I add this menthol mix to everything I vape. It makes flavors I don't care for vapable.

Grumpster is right on the mark - adding menthol drops to liquid is like salt is to food - good analogy grump

3 pounds is waaaaaay too much unless you're buying for an army!

I bought 4 ounces and that will probably last me my vaping lifetime.

After spending much of the past couple weeks in and out of the hospital, I'm thankful for two things. My vapes, and salt. Vapes got me through the time "inside" and salt is the only thing that kept me from starving on the stuff they try to pass for food in a hospital. Now all I have to do is detox from the amount of vaping I did while spending endless houres staring at the wall in front of my bed.

Thanks a bunch for finding a good menthol recipe.
Still a noob with bloodshot eyes trying to read all the info for hrs.

I missed the menthol as much as anything when trying to quit and minty stuff just doesn't get it. It does go well with most flavors too !
Peppermint oil is 70% menthol....but its an oil, easily gunks an atty and has that mint flavor.

I liked the 1 drop per ml idea so much. I wanted to keep the "mix list" small and here was the method I ended up with.
4oz needle crystals from ebay...yea...many yrs supply...but I have them
Ground up crystals on a tupperware lid with a medicine bottle lid. They crush very easy. Added 1/4tsp packed crystals fairly tight to 5ml of PG. Heat for 5 sec in the microwave......dead on perfect for what I want as 1 drop per ml.

I agree its a personal thing on the correct amount, but its easy to adjust to suit your own personal taste.

My main base vape mix for a 1ml batch is:
    12 Drops PG
    2 Drops VG
    5 Drops 36mg E-Smokey Treat
    1 Drop Menthol

I've tried adding a little more VG for better vapor place of the PG and can see no improvement. I'm wondering if I have a viscosity issue? I never had much luck thinning any menthol formula with water....gets hazy and seems to clog easy.

Thanks again for the great info,

    Tony

Just got my menthol crystals in and have only used them once. I read in one of the threads that you could crush them with a rolling pen to make it easier to melt them. I crushed them and put a small amount into a recipe that i was making. Seemed seriously strong. Evidently it doesn't take much.

The crystals are easy to crush. I usually use a mortar and pestle I bought at wallyworld.

I bought a couple bottles of commercial a while back and the label said it was 66% menthol and 34% ethanol so that's the formula I've stuck to. I just fill a small bottle with 34% ethanol, add crushed crystals till dissolved. Add more crystals if necessary to get the correct total volume and I'm done.

The dry crystals will take up a little more space when measured dry than once their dissolved. The better you crush them, the more accurately you can measure them to start out with. By starting with the measured ethanol and adding crystals till a total dissolved volume is reached it allows me to produce a accurate ratio every time. What ratio you use isn't as important is being to duplicate is in the future for consistency.

I wouldn't even think if adding the chrystals directly to any juice I'm mixing. The menthol chrystals are way strong and I want to be able to duplicate anything I do so I always use the drops. Better control and better consistancy.

Grumpster - Can you (I) buy 34% ethanol - if so, where?
