Couldn't someone who wanted a large order just order it from the manufacturer instead of looking for a supplier who would sell that amount?

you could, but the shipping is outrageous on some china sites and you run the risk of getting your package seized from customs... you might save a few bucks but you run the risk of losing hundreds or thousands depending on the size of your order.. your risk, your call.. I say support the local suppliers
