The worksheet in v7 that has the flavorings along with their particular warnings needs to be updated. Dang.

The Mango extract from Faeries Finest does indeed use natural ingredients. It's full of mango particulate! It might not actually be a problem but I'm not going to try it to see if it clogs an atty or not.

It does make killer cupcakes though
It has been annotated and updated, Thanks for the input!

    Default Thank You!

    Dan,

I had one of your earlier versions of the spreadsheet from Sept and just downloaded version 7(2). It is absolutely amazing! There is so much useful information available at my fingertips, from recipes to flavorings to cost. Thanks to you and all of the contributors for making my DIY that much easier to do.

Good judgement comes from experience, and experience - well, that comes from poor judgement.

Great work you all have put into it!!!!!! I do have a question though in your listings of Lorann flavors you have Menthol Eucalyptus listed as OIL Based Flavors - Not Recommended and in your recipes you have Thin Mint you are suppost to use 25% Menthol Liquid (Home Made) what is that recipe????

QBall, some people use oil-based flavoring anyway. Many folks do not have atomizer problems when using oil-based flavorings.

Personally, I think it's an old wive's tale - but based in a little logic. If you vaped oil you'd clog your atomizer, sure.

But a flavoring contains some oil, and a recipe contains some of that flavoring. So juice using an oil-based flavoring doesn't really contain much oil at all. By the end of the day, what little oil might remain in the atomizer could simply be blown out. A quick bath in pure grain alcohol would surely rinse every trace of oil out of the atomizer.

I will use any oil-based flavoring as long as it's a good flavor. And that's the same criteria I use for any flavoring, so the oil-base is not even a consideration to me.

But it might be a concern to some, so the concern/warning is listed anyway, in the interests of full disclosure and full information.

Question ok so just add water?

ok if I have 60mg nic no flavor PG, and I want to cut it down to 36mg, with 20% flavoring...it looks like this to make 30ml..

    Number of drops 40 = 1ml
    Section 2_____Ingredient____________ml__________drops_____ _____Percentage
    _____________PG or VG with Nic_____18.0__________720__________60.0%
    _____________PG or VG (no Nic)______6.0__________240__________20.0%
    _____________Water________________0.0__________0__ __________0.0%
    _____________Flavorings_____________6.0_________24 0__________20.0%

but as i'll be adding glycerin to it as well according to the above and glycerin is fairly thick, what percentage of vodka would I need to use, so that it's not too thick, and clogs or too thin that it floods my atty? This will be CVS glycerin off the shelf which states mix 2 or 3 times water to glycerin on the bottle. Oh and are these good percentages to keep with DIY (60/40)?

Replace some of the "PG or VG (no Nic)" with the glycerin. I personally use 15% VG and 1 or 2 drops of vodka per milliliter of VG used. Others use 20% vodka 80% VG, or about 4 drops of vodka per ml of VG.

So to make a 30ml batch, my version of your recipe would be:
    Nic-Juice: 18ml
    VG: 4.5ml (15% of 30ml)
PG no Nic: 1.5ml (The original 6ml of PG minus the 4.5ml of VG)
    Flavoring: 6ml

For 4.5ml of VG I would add 5-10 drops of vodka.
Other might use up to 20 drops - you certainly can do so, if the e-juice seems a little thick.

    _____________Vodka________________1.5__________0__ ___________0.0%
    _____________Flavorings_____________6.0_________24 0__________20.0%

or can I not cut straight glycerin with PG and call it good (having to put VG in as well)?

The line labeled "PG or VG (no Nic)" is a mixture of PG and or VG. Glycerin is VG - same thing. So you need to split up your original 6ml to a mix of VG and PG. To use VG at 15% this would require 4.5ml (30 * 0.15). The PG would be the remainder, 1.5ml (6ml - 4.5ml = 1.5ml).
