Indonesian vanilla

I really wanted a good vanilla vape and have found what I believe to be a superior flavor from a vanilla: Indonesian vanilla extract. I was talking to a baker when looking for LorAnn's and told her about how I 'smoke' it and she told me that Indonesian vanilla extracts handle heat and high temperatures better than regular vanilla, so I thought I would give it a try.

I got the Indonesian vanilla extract from EarthFare, $6 for 2oz. I know it's not as concentrated as LorAnn's but the vape flavor is excellent, if you like vanilla.


where I also found 8oz of K food grade VG for $8 at EarthFare. EarthFare is an organic grocery store, you probably have something similar in your are too.

Is the vanilla a flavoring, or an oil? I have an Earthfare in Asheville.

The ingredients are: "water, organic alcohol, organic vanilla bean extractives". USDA and KSA.

I read to not use oils, so I've avoided any flavorings with oils in them, which eliminated orange, which I really wanted to try.

it's very smooth. I have some set out to evaporate the alcohol, might make for a more earthy taste. I'll have to wait and see.

I've got some pure vanilla extract from Mexico, I had always thought this was the best vanilla extract money could buy, you can't get it in the states. Anyway I read the ingredients and one of them was sugar so I didn't try making a mix with this. Thanks for the info on the Indonesian vanilla extract, I love a good vanilla vape.

The Mexican vanilla strain is the same as Madagascar, but due to soil, growing, harvesting, and curing conditions each vanilla tastes different and has different vanillin concentrations. The Indonesian is supposed to be more woody and pungent, which is probably good for vaping since vanilla tends to get lost in other flavors or is weak by itself. Good tip, unfortunately I've already bought Uganda vanilla beans to make my own vanilla. I found a site that sells Indonesian vanilla extract at $6.99 for 2oz.

That looks like a good deal but the minimum order is $75. It's good to know about the Indonesian vanilla though, I wonder if any juice vendors use this to make their vanilla flavors?

Amended with a better link. Most suppliers probably use Madagascar vanilla extract (from Vanilla Tahetensis), if you see a Bourbon Vanilla it's Madagascar, and generally so is French Vanilla. Maybe someone could ask PA what kind of vanillas they use since they have 2 (soon to be 3) vanilla flavors. However, it's likely that most places use the same vanilla and combine it with other flavors to make variations. Indonesian vanilla is Vanilla Planifola.

The Vanilla Bean is the dried and fermented seed pod of the vanilla orchid
(the only orchid that actually produced anything we eat, other than flowers)

"In order for a vanilla extract to be called pure, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration requires that the solution contain a minimum of 35% alcohol and 13.35 ounces of vanilla bean per gallon"

after that it comes down to "What Vanilla Do You Like".

Mexican Vanilla, being that the Vanilla Orchid is a native of Mexico this CAN BE some of the finest in the world, but, many of the Mexican plantations are not known for there quality control or consistency.

Bourbon Vanilla, from Madagascar (Bourbon being a French Duke, not Whiskey) is consistent and tasty, it is what most people think of when they think 'Vanilla'. Indonesia produces 'Bourbon-Style' beans that, in some cases, may be better than the Madagascar beans.

Tahitian Vanilla, is a whole new animal, it is a hybrid orchid and produces a bean that tends to be sweeter and more floral in fragrance and flavor.

Vanilla "FLAVOR" should be avoided, this can be anything from totally artificial flavor, to burnt wood extracted in pool acid. Anything containing Vanillin can be used to make vanilla flavor.

French Vanilla, Vanilla does not grow in France, French Vanilla refers to a flavor of vanilla, cream, and/or egg yoke.

just an aside...

Oak got lots of Vanillin, some people take big 'ol oak barrels and burn 'em on the insides, then they fill them barrels with Grain Alcohol and let 'em sit a spell. Once they sat just long enough they take that booze out and call it Whiskey! (and if they done this in the right parts of Kentucky, they can even call it Bourbon)
