You do realize that protected = FAULT PROTECTION

Of course you don't need to be protected when everything is going good, its when things go bad you need the protection. How do you magically know there is a fault, be it a short, or a batt gone south, untill it too late? Heck if you could do that there wouldn't be such a thing as a fault, mistake or acident, you would just stop it from happening before it does. Life doesn't work that way tho..

1 "bad one" in about 50, is enough to blow your face off. 1 "bad one" in infinite is also enough to blow your face off.

I'm lost. You are trying to save a few bucks, like maybe 3, and you are risking your own safety to do so?

This may not be the place to ask but I have no clue about HV batts and the like yet- Just what I ocassionally read and try to understand...
Would the Eneloop batteries work? I saw a post somewhere that someone mentioned no batteries available in the US for HV that are rechargeable... something to that effect anyway- & eneloops are available here and can be recharged... I have no idea what protected vs unprotected means...
I use eneloops in my Canon and will never use anything else now-
Any thoughts...

They are much safer. chemistry is different than regular li ion batteries.

I use the same ones doots, mine are the 750mAh grey and yellow ones. Never had any issues with mine. They are real easy to tell when they need to be recharged, they drop off on voltage really quickly at the end.

I have some of those green 15270 3v CR2's and don't use them anymore, I'm tired of reading threads about them being problematic. I still have 4x of them in shrink wrap .
