Great cart packing material that should last indefinately

I have just got a new M-401 which as everyone knows has tiny little carts. Now I was impressed that the M-410 seemed to wick the cart dry and give top vapour all the way till the end.

Well this did not last for the third refill so I decided to find out why. The cart material has melted together where the steel wick touches it.

Thinking about this and about the fact that the stuffing material in the cart needs to release its liquid as easily as possible while still holding onto it. I have come up with the best stuffing solution:

Stainless steel wool!. Try it I promise it works unbelievably well because the liquid can be drawn so easily and it does not perish with the heat from the atomizer. Also you can drip fill it to the brim directly without touching the steel wool. Bubbles rise easily out of the and it will saturate in record time.

What kind of steel wool is it? Where to get it?

I can imagine that it does indeed work well, but a possible downside is that over time the steel wool may degrade the metal bridge where the two contact - that brdge stuff is quite delicate and brittle. If there are no or few ends in the wool, perhaps that's not a problem. I will try it if i know what to get ...

I imagine in the new designs that have the cart and atomiser as one throwaway unit, this is what they do - the metal wick extends into the juice reservoir, no join.

I started a 'wire wool?' thread but I couldn't find any 'stainless' wire wool to try in my carts but using standard steel while wool of different grades I found that tiny bits of wire broke off far too easily and decided it was too dangerous because of the risk it could be inhaled.
I have since filled a cart with the metal mesh wicking material from old penstyle atomizers and at the moment I am finding it works great. I believe there are a few people are trying this and getting quite good results.

Ah yes you are the other steel wool man!

Um I wouldn't try in in an 801 or 901 beacause of the worry of metal bits breaking off getting tangles in the wick etc.

My M-401 is a different matter because the cart is so tiny so there is very little wool surface exposed. Also I do not remove or repack it when I refill because it flows in and out so easily. It's early days yet but definitely draws well.

Oh almost forgo, If you can find stainless wool it is usually coarser than regular which is not what we want... I happened to get some nice fine high grade stuff from a metal work shop.

I tried modifying an m401 atomizer specially for dripping by replacing the stainless steel wick with a bigger single piece that went right down into the cart ,then it would have taken a much bigger dripping load .The problem was i couldn't take the atomizer apart without breaking it (well i could but i couldn't get the thing back together after) .

there was a discusssion on this. steel wool combusts, and the vapor is dangerous from it. i think there is an issue if you are running the unit hot enough to melt the polyester, i have been using the same cart for well over a month.
