Default Portland Oregon-KATU investigates ecigs

I just ran across on my DVR a news spot advertising and "KATU Investigative Report" on the e-cigarette and is it' "really safe". For those in Oregon the report will air it on channel 12 ( fox) on Tuesday. I will try to get a video after the report airs.

Good find. I can't wait to see what KATU has to say about it!

I bet it will be. One of the other local TV affiliates did an actual investigative report where they sent a woman and a child to the Smoking Everywhere kiosk to see if they were marketed to children. Conclusion? They're not marketed to children.

Also, there's a high profile radio host in Portland who's been promoting them (Rick Emerson) so they're a known quantity to a lot of people around here. That may have something to do with the local TV stations putting effort into investigating PVs.

Default KPTV channel 12 RESPONSE to inquiry!

I sent a short email to KPTV through the form on their front page. I basically wrote that I hoped their report would be well investigated and balanced, since I felt that the e-cig was doing good things for me.

Surprisingly, I got a response from their reporter, Kerry Tomlinson.

Derrick:

Thank you so much for your e-mail! It is nice to hear from you, and we
would very much like to hear more. We have asked health researchers for
studies of the effects of e-cigarettes, the inhaling of nicotine,
propylene glycol and water, and information about studies on whether or
not this is healthier than regular cigarettes. The researchers tell us
they have not seen any studies done on this. We have also asked several
e-cigarette companies for study info on the health effects of
e-cigarettes and whether or not they are safer or healthier. They have
not provided any. So I am hoping that you might know of some clinical
studies specifically on e-cigarettes that you can direct me to.

Thanks for your help!

Kerry Tomlinson

So, my question for you. What resources should I send her to primarily?

Can't post links yet, search for a thread started by Tropical Bob with the search terms "glycol" and "study". There's a link to an article in Time Magazine article about some studies done on inhaling PG vapor.

Why not send the reporter here? They is enough on this board for 40 reports!

This would be a good resource for research, no question. Pretty heavy signal to noise ratio at times, but it's unmatched as a clearing house for authoritative information on practically everything related to PVs.
