The E-Cigarette in Public Have you used e-cigarettes in no-smoking areas? How did those around you react? Is it the perfect way around the smoking ban?

I guess work is public, lol. It's just amusing that I can walk around downtown with it and no comments...the smoking block is a different story.

I got tired of giving the lecture forever ago. Now days I just say "it's an electronic cigarette, think mini fog machine laced with nicotine and you're not too far off base, if you want to learn more google e cigarette forum" and fiddle with my cell phone like I'm doing something important.. they tend to leave me alone at that point.

I remember being in a seminar for teachers once. Someone asked the moderator "In your opinion, what does it take to be a truly great teacher?"

The answer came without a moments hesitation, "Remember, most emphaticly, what is was like to be a student."

I think this appplies to vap'n as well. Please, no matter how many times you are asked about this new device; remember, most emphaticly, what it was like to be a smoker looking for some hope.

Is it a pain in the a**? Sure. But you were fortunate enough to have found e-cigs early in the development of this industry. You are on the cutting edge. You ARE the cutting edge. Smokers that ask you for information are drowning people asking you for a lifesaver.

I actually agree with Holmes, if you can convince one smoker to switch to e-cigs, you have just saved someone from the health risks of smoking. You have introduced them to something you love, that they too will have to talk about.

When talking to non-smokers you are bringing awareness to them, so they to can be educated. With the threat of a ban hanging over all of our heads, it's very important for us as users to get as much awareness out there as possible. Any little bit of help is worthwhile. Like I said though, if you get someone to switch, you may have just saved them.

I love this thread and I can so relate to this. I have become the female version of Billy Mays. I keep thinking I need to be selling this for real and I would be making a lot of money doing it.

Two things:
Today in the airport ( NJ) I was vaping no problem.

The other day a man told me that his sister in law was told by her doctor NOT to vape and that the vaping is what caused her to need to have a stint placed in her chest. I was pissed to say the least to have this random person be so negative over this. It was the first time for me. Of course I defended this like a Mother bear defending her cubs. It shut him up and he regretted messing with me. Don't mess with the thing that caused me to stop smoking instantly.

Everyone is very nice and highly curious and ask a ton of questions. At first I didn't mind and I don't wanna come off like a grumpy gus but I just wanna smoke in peace. And I'm not smoking my e cig in the grocery store drawing insane attention, I'm talking out on the street passing by. Its like instant celebrity. I still answer all questions and laugh and smile at everyone but wow, vaping comes with a ton of responsibility. On my lunch break at work I vape with the other smokers on our smoking deck and I find myself the entire time having to take apart my E Cig, showing how it works, explaining technique's like dripping that has given me a lot of success and to be honest I still am a complete and total noob still learning as I go.
Is anyone else having this experience? I mean it almost causes me to go off by myself in the dark with my e cig but I was always a proud smoker and never felt I should hide myself away like a leper. But with analogs people just gave me dirty looks for smoking, and now I have smiling faces who won't leave me alone. I'd like to meet somewhere in the middle where I can vape/smoke without the dirty looks and the 100 questions. Smoking anything has become this massive taboo drawing attention both negative and positive.
I hate that I'm coming off like I don't like explaining my e cig but I really do enjoy it many times and love helping people and giving my whole pitch for them, but God, its incredible the amount of perfect strangers that would usually sooner step on me rather than look at me, but with an e cig in hand they come running across parking lots toward me.
I have yet to experience that, yet. Just received my 510 yesterday, haven't gotten the chance to get out. So no smoking in public yet. Hopefully I won't have to do much explaining and will be able to smoke in some peace.

I was really caught off guard with that remark and man did I ever tear into the guy that said it.
I sure hope that it doesn't have any validity, I really can't see why it would.
How could a doctor make a claim like this in the first place is rather odd since these e cigs are so new. There are NO studies or data to support a theory like that at this point.
Sounds more like sour grapes to me.

I get it quite a lot... At work, we're hiring and laying off temps like mad(busy season for Halloween costumes), and I sware, every smoker that comes through gets the whole presentation during one break or another. A few two or three times. And that's not even counting all the people at coffee shops, bars, out on the street, whatever.
