The E-Cigarette in Public Have you used e-cigarettes in no-smoking areas? How did those around you react? Is it the perfect way around the smoking ban?

If you're looking for a stealth vapor, DeKang makes some in a variety of flavors. I tried the 555 (they call it something else) and it's light vapor, but not completely gone. What I've had the most success with is a stealth vapor by mistEliquid - the e liquid finest vape for the finest price in the UK. It's menthol, very strong and, if you do it right, completely vaporless after inhaling. Might be the same as the DeKang stealth menthol, but I haven't tried it to compare. Shawn at Litecig said he's going to stock some so hopefully there'll be a US based source eventually. If you're just looking for a nicotine hit every so often, and not the full smoking experience, I recommend it. You pretty much have to dedicate an atty to it though.

IMO, the biggest distraction with vaping in class would be to those that are still smokers and can't smoke in class.
Most smokers and/or nicotine addicts will crave when they see someone else smoking (or emulating it w/vapor), and the craving will get worse if they are in a situation where they can't smoke at the moment. So vaping in class could be a big distraction for some people.

Reminds me of a story, a guy took a pic of a train, I think it was an Amtak, NYPD cop starts reading him the riot act "9/11 national security, bla bla".

It is not illegal to take a photo of an Amtrak train. The guy taking the pic showed the cop the law on his blackberry. This resulted in him being handcuffed to a post until a supervisor got there and then had him arrested.

They have not charged him with taking pics of the train, becasue they can't, it is not illegal. But he is charged with blocking access to a public area and some sort of assault of the police officer because the cop did not like they guy's tone.

This was a taxpaying citizen doing something that not only is there no law against, but there is a specific policy indicating that it is ok. In your case as a student, you can't win. If you took it to court and won on legal grounds, the college would just expel you or take some other retaliation.

It would have been awesome if PV's had been invented back when the whole county was a "designated smoking area". The only places you could not smoke were for fire safety reasons. The PV would have taken care of that in most places. Now we are all criminals not for what we are doing but for what it looks like we are doing. Never mind that smoking bans were supposed to be about 2nd hand smoke. We are a minority and are stepping out of what is considered "acceptable behavior" .

But it is not all gloom and doom. Right now you know and I know you are not breaking any law. So go to the bathroom or some private place inside and vape your brains out.

I am reminded of another story from my younger years. I lived in a college town at the time. I bought some gas and paid for it on my Visa card. For some reason it would not read on the terminal inside (back before pay at the pump). So, horror of horrors, the attendant had to type in the CC #. After those painful seconds of back breaking typing, the clerk gruffly states. "Your card is F*&Ked up. You need to call Mommy or Daddy and have them send you a new one. I shouldn't have to type it in."

The funny thing was I not only had already graduated college and was working full time, I have been on my own since I was 17, and not only was the card my own account, at the time my parents did not even have a credit card.
Yea, havent been vaping at all while at school now besides outside and bathroom breaks, it's been fine. Like I said it's not in my nature to be confrontational when no confrontation is needed so I simply left. I was just trying to educate him, he could have been a long time smoker and been enlightened by it, oh well

I personally would never vape in a classroom, or a restraunt, and most of all not an airplane! Like it or not we all live in a society that is fed up with smokers and smoking. I'm sure you could lecture everyone all night on the benefits and differences of vaping verse smoking but the fact is it looks a lot like smoking and the culture of anti smoking won't be washed away with an educational conversation. I treat my ecigarette like the real thing, only vape in my car when I'm at work, vape outside of all businesses, and I wait until I'm out of a friends car before I vape. In all of those cases yeah I could start vaping then when I get yelled at I could tell them that they are over reacting...but really I try to make friends with people, I don't like rocking the boat, so I try to be respectful. And to anyone who is thinking about vaping in a classroom, while school policy may not address such action, why on earth would you risk getting kicked out, or pissing off your professor?

I agree. Liberating as vaping is, we don't need to be obnoxious about. It's only going to give it a bad name.

Totally agree. I am someone who has no problem breathing out a cloud of vapor in virtually any location, but there are limits. I wait until breaks to vape (though I usually remain in the classroom). That way, I'm not disturbing or distracting others within my classes. Same goes for appearing in court (though I joke about doing it).

In certain situations, decorum dictates not vaping (or eating, drinking, talking, having your cell phone ring, ...) Now, if you little ___ would stop browsing 4chan or playing video games in front of me in class so that I can concentrate on the inane garbage the professor is spewing forth, it would be much appreciated. kthnxbye. ~~Adam

I agree with the OP.

People need to use common sense when vaping. A few brazen a-holes could ruin it for all of us.
