Can't give you an answer on that. It depends on the battery and manufacturer. I'd plug it into the charger when you get it to see if it needs it. Probably not, though.
The majority of batteries for anything come from the factory charged.

Both batteries will be charged. I can't guarantee they will both be at 100% level, but you'll be able to start using it straight out of the box. Thanks

Wow! Got my Riva today...I can't believe how much nicer it is than the 510! Not merely a replacement for my broken PV but an upgrade as well! And I enjoy the mint juice also! Thank you for your exceptional customer service. I will be sure to refer your products to friends =)

Doug, are you out of stock on both Riva and standard 510 again? Your "Featured Specials" on the right says the Rivas are in stock, but the product pages say out of stock -- just checking. Thanks!

Thank you for pointing that out. The last of our Rivas shipped yesterday. A new order has been placed and the Featured Specials section has been changed.

Got my replacement battery today, works fine

The credit you gave me I converted to a PIF of the second riva kit to someone who was trying to get a family member off cigs (successful -- you brightened their Christmas

). Very generous on your part, and I let them know you were the source.
