The fumes coming out of the tank are above the UEL.
Then air dilutes the fumes to the explosive range.
Finally the air dilutes the fumes below the LEL.
Just try not to hold your ignition source in the explosive mixture zone and you will live.

Good emus;
And who knows? When it finally happens, (I didn't say *if*, because I believe it will happen some day.) It may not be due to an atomizer. It could be ignited by a faulty battery, or battery switch.
I'm a true believer of Murphy's Law.

All we are saying is if you can't wait the 2-3 mins to pump a tank then you have problems. Hell, I've heard of a plumber who had his lighter in his pocket, was digging a hole, bent over, the gas came out, he struck a metal pipe with his shovel, making a spark, and seriously injuring him.

Simply amazing.
Because I can't drive I'm the passenger at all times hehe, most times I put it away when stopping for fuel to avoid being mistaken for smoking but other times I just vape downwards and forget to put it away hehe especially with an auto battery dangling!

I am working here it's not just like I'm stopping for gas which I don't generally vape since I just wanna get my gas pumped and leave and I've usually been vaping on the way there. However I've been in situations where I've gone 45 minutes without a chance to step away from the pumps to get a vape in so I vape at the pump. When I'm working solo around 4-6 it's the work time rush so it's not uncommon to have 6-8 cars filling the pumps for a full 30+ minutes which doesn't give you a chance to go vape especially since with credit card users who only want a certain amount we can't preset the pump we just have to wait there till it fills up so that is generally my chance to vape since I have to wait there anyways might as well take the downtime to get some nic into my system cause it's a stressful time having that many people and not being able to let them pump (its a town bylaw that it has to be full serve so if the fire marshal sees someone doing it themselves it could get the station shut down)
All I'm saying is imo it's worth the risk of the 1:1,000,000 or less chance that it would actually ignite...

Jim, I have to laugh at this.
By this thinking...
Engines make gas stations explode.
Pump LCD's make gas stations explode.
Car batteries make gas stations explode.
And so on. And standing at the pump is SAFER than standing next to the car, btw. Because static discharge along the car could cause ignition at the tank, the entry point, where there are actual vapors quickly dissipating.
Bookmark away.

An e-cig atomizer heats well beyond the flash point of gasoline vapor. It's unlikely that an explosion would result, but not impossible, and strange things happen.

The cars rolling up to the pumps themselves are a friggin cornucopia of ignition sources be it from engine electronics, spinning metal item static frictions, rubber against metal static discharge, you name it. To think something as tiny as a shielded atomizer inside an e-cig with almost zero exposure to the open air could ignite an invisible cloud of gas fumes that YOUR CAR did not set off is ridiculous. It's a common misconception though, so don't feel bad.

Just curious, don't you park your car next to the pump when filling up?
