Just thinking about the way that some folks market e-cigs - "beat the bans, smoke where you like" sort of thing.

It sort of sounds like cheating, the ignorant who see these adverts may feel that vapers are just trying "smoke" in another way and feel threatened by it...then again, there are just the plain pig ignorant types who are simply closed to new ideas (like the guy the OP encountered who just seemed unpleasant and arrogant).

I'm sort of disapointed that nobody has challenged me yet, but I am not really blatant about vaping and generally don't do it in shops and the like, much like I never smoked in these places...I can wait a few minutes until I get outside.

I definitely agree with you on this one. That shouldn't be the way e-cigs are advertised but they are. I usually only use my e-cig at my home, outside if I'm out and about and the mall (usually around my e-cig guy just because I know I wont look as bad. At least then people can go up and find out what its about rather than harassing me over it.

Agree with you folks. After all would you be happy if someone said: "Pardon me but just let me blow this unknown vapour into the air you are breathing" ? Or worse still just did it.
Some understanding is needed, or we may be seen as too pushy, or even threatening.

This is a very valid point that I will take into consideration before vaping inside in front of people again, thanks

That day, his excuse for being belligerent was your e-cigarette. Another day, who knows what he'll have for an excuse. On the other hand, it's a lost battle trying to enlighten the intransigent

If I use it in a non-smoking area I will call it a "vaporizor" if I'm in a smoking place like the casino I call it an "electronic cigarette." I notice you get a better reaction this way.

Also, I have had mostly good reactions to it, but have also a couple of bad reactions. One guy I work with is convinced that it has "antifreeze" in it and will not believe anything I say when I try to correct him. Oh well, it's his choice. I still can't understand why he thinks its ok to smoke his analogs if he's so concered about the antifreeze thing. Before he "did his research" he had tried mine and liked it. Maybe he needs to research whats in an analog.

Default This is an interesting story

I think "e-cigs" need to be further segregated from analog cigarettes. Calling the devices "e-cigarettes," is already a misconception. They are not cigarettes, at all. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a duck. So, why work to make the electronic cigarette look like an analog, and even call it one. They should just be nicotine vaporizers. Call it what it is. I'm sure you will still run into people who are closed minded. However, there are many who will turn their shoulder to it, just for its label as a cigarette device. They are not related! Anyway, that's my 2 cents. Peace,

I bought an e cig specifically to use it in places with smoking bans. Many others still do that. Although I eventually found myself using it for much more than defiance of smoking bans, that was what drew me to it. Without that advantage, a huge customer base for e cigarettes is lost. That goes for calling it a vaporizer rather than an e cigarette. New customers are NOT looking for a vaporizer. They are looking for a smoking alternative. The bottom line is that if you hide and pretend that it is not simply a smoking alternative with the decided advantage of using it in smoking banned places, you play right into the hand of ASH. If you have read anything at all about ASH's objections to e cigarettes, you would not be playing nice nice with their plans.

Yeah, right! Do you want vapor? Do you want nicotine? If you do, then you are searching for something that behaves like a cigarette even if it doesn't resemble one. I have had basically every kind of e cig since I started, and a year later, I still prefer the ones that resemble cigarettes. I, on the other hand, am not fond of those that resemble crack pipes, but that is simply my personal preference.

I'm sure you told him that the tiny bit of "antifreeze" stuff found in the one e-cig cartridge came from the nictoine taken out of real tobacco and that his analog has even more antifreeze in it than any PV?
