Someone make a remark about the forum for people who quit smoking. I went to the forum and found someone posting about switching from smoking to vaping. They are literally rude to the person and telling him to get off of their forum if he was not going to quit nicotine. Still using nicotine is not like qutting smoking.

Little update, I busted out my 510 last night infront of one of the two guys who initially lit into me. Made it very obvious that I could care less what he thinks..and I gotta say, got no negative comments this time around. I guess a little show of confidence goes a long way.

And tonight I plan to bust it out at a party that was full of smokers a few weeks ago who loved my 510. I'll be bringing cards with the address to this forum and some other info on them..I think I can convert atleast 3-5 of the smokers there.

On an unrelated note, but still funny, I gave this thing a go at two separate bars last week. First one has no-smoking allowed. My buddy asked the bartender (we were the only ones there, closing it out) if I could "smoke with no smoke"..she didn't get the joke and said "no"..we let it ride for a bit, then tried again, she let me have a go at it and was really intrigued.

The more hilarious story was the next night, we went to a local bar (Bar Louie), I know the owners, entire staff..probably the best place to really try this thing out. I was vaping at the bar no problem, we eventually moved to a booth though to accommodate more people. I pulled it out there and started vaping, and was going for a good 5 minutes or so when our new waiter walks up and sets an ash tray infront of me then walks away. It took me a few minutes to figure out that he couldn't tell the difference between a metallic blue cylinder with a blue led in the end...and a real cigarette. It led to some great laughs for the night..I'll be back there tomorrow to see what new reactions I get..especially from the owner, lol

Actually I quit cold turkey years ago, and got into ecigs for a friend's son. To be honest I would get angry if an anolog smoker smoked indoors beside me. After a while analog smoke is terrible. I guess we all quit for different reasons. But for some reason the sight of a smoker used to disturb me. I know it was not from jealosy. I think it reminds one of the sheer stupidity one sees in the act, and reminds me that at one time, I was that stupid.

Thanks for starting the thread - I agree with the jealousy aspect of it as I've said elsewhere on these forums had I gone through the agony of quitting only to have this revolutionary product appear on the scene years after I'd be jealous and pissed.

I also strongly agree with Martha's statment:

Still using nicotine is not like qutting smoking.
I have been vaping for almost 5 weeks now but I've only been smoke free for about 3 days. Yesterday my father (ex-smoker) angrily spat at me: you can't go from being addicted to cigarettes to being addicted to that thing. To which I replied: well, you'd better get used to it because I am NEVER quitting this and even if that were my intention HOW DARE he jump all over me for vaping when I had just gotten to my analogue free point?

Some people don't want to hear about how much better or safer it is and when I say they "don't want to hear it" I mean it both figuratively and literally because a few hours after jumping on me a commercial came on the TV talking about NY giving out free nic patches and gum and he said: see, you can get them for free why don't you call and get some?

    WTF?

I can agree with Martha's statement. My father is a doctor, and his response to my vaping wasn't a positive recognition that it was better than smoking. He simply stated to me "You are still addicted to nicotine, this is just a different way of getting it." I'm of course summarizing what he said, but that was the message and I quite agree.

I personally am trying to quit, I just found a safer way to do it and a more enjoyable way at that. I remember the worst part of quitting cold turkey for me last time I did it. I don't know how many here know what a "cup of life" is, it's a relatively new smoking term to me (only learned it about 2 years ago) and references the use of a coffee mug as an ash tray if you don't have an ash tray handy. When I first quit cold turkey, my cravings for nicotine came on soooooooooooooo strong that I would pull cigarette butts out of that mug, that had been in there for a week or longer, and light them up just for that ONE hit of nicotine. It was DISGUSTING, yet I did it..because I waaaaaaaaaaanted that nicotine so bad.

I want to quit, permanently, but I don't want to find myself craving nicotine so bad that I do such disgusting things to get it. I want to ween myself off slowly, and reduce my addiction to NOTHING..and then walk away. And I found the way to do that. And I'll be damned if I'll let any ex or non-smokers stand in my way of doing that in a peaceful manner.

I've had good and bad reactions at work, mostly good. Of those that are bad, it's been about a 50/50 mix of smokers/ex-smokers and non-smokers. The general gist of both is "that doesn't sound safe" to which i either reply something along the lines "at least its still a hell of a lot better than smoking" or depending on who(m?) it is, I start chasing them around blowing hits at them.
I had one girl I work with actually tell me she thought it was gross that something I exhaled was "floating around in the air." All I could do was laugh and let the other people around explain how stupid of a remark she made, being the pack a day smoker she is.

I've had a number of people who know I'm vaping, ask me when I'm going to quit smoking.
To which I proudly reply, "I quit smoking on January 15th". For the most part, they assume that smoking cessation is the whole point of vaping. Well, that is the most important benefit. But, I have no immediate plans to quit vaping. Down the road, perhaps. For now, just not smoking is a major 'deal' in my life.

And, I've also had negative reactions from ex-smokers, as described by others in this thread. An increasing number of people who see me vaping at least know what "electronic cigarettes" are. I let them know that I call the devices personal vaporizers, not eCigs. It is at least gaining ground in awareness as an alternative to smoking.

Bumped into my first e-cig user at a party last night, she unfortunately bought a Blu, wanted me to do some mods to it but I said I couldn't as of yet due to design differences. Still was nice to see someone else using one, and I'll be sending her the link to this site in a moment, she seemed very interested in learning more about the habit.

Also found out from her that we have a vendor in the mall selling these (I avoid the mall like the plague, too many teeny boppers..so I never knew), so I'll be checking that out maybe Saturday and seeing if he sells juice at all. If the quality is decent I have a local supplier while I wait for the good stuff I get online to come in..

I also found out at the party that drunk people don't mind the taste of this horrible Clove juice I bought..so I now have a way to get rid of it..gonna take a few carts full of it next time and just let people go to town..get more recruits for the e-cig, and get rid of the juice at the same time..lol

Edit: Sidebar, I now found what I hate more than smoking itself, second hand..my lungs are on fire after taking in soooooo much second hand smoke last night. Definitely don't miss it.

I’ve been hearing that line a lot, almost always accompanied by a frowned face.

But surprisingly never, never when I was on Nicotine Replacement Therapies.
