Ok so why did the ECA not say these same things in their statement? Everything the doctors said were things they saw in the report. The members of this forum could see the flaws. Why couldn't the ECA? Are they content with actually putting out statements with no value or content to the matter? Sure seems like it to me. Even the video put out by the ECA was a complete joke. It said the same thing as that worthless statement. How is it that members of this forum could figure these things out but an organization dedicated to the cause didn't? Is the ECA content with letting everyone else do all the footwork? Are they content with looking like an association that couldn't tell A from B? I know that the ECA says they spend all their money on lobbying and such but I have yet to hear anything about it. And I scour the boards looking for answers involving the ECA but I find nothing but useless statements. While some of those statements might have worked pre FDA report, they will NOT work now. I say this ECA. Stop letting everyone else do all the work that YOU should be doing. Suppliers and consumers alike donate to the ECA because they feel they are doing something to move us forward. Their money is not giving them the level of quality that should be given in situations like this. Horrid statements worthless videos and news articles that don't really provide any substantial evidence toward anything.

To me the ECA is like a stripper. Begging for you dollar then leaving you high and dry afterwards. But remember it's all voluntary and of your own free will. Hell going to a strip club is voluntary of your own free will. You give the stripper your money of your own free will. And then you are given a taste then thrown out at the end of the night. And yes the ECA has begged for donations. And left you high and dry. I for one am appalled and disgusted by the actions of the ECA. You are putting out statements of little to no value. Get with it. Stop trying to blind people by your worthless effort. Start showing some proof that suppliers and consumers who donate are getting a legitimate effort instead of just saying hey this is what we are doing. The ECA is a joke and are an organization that is doing nothing for the cause.

The ECA is not comprised of doctors. All we can do is find our allies and urge them to make a response regarding the issues that have arisen from the FDA's announcement. That's exactly what is happening. The ECA and members and pending members of the ECA have reached out to these doctors and they are making statements.

I never said that the ECA were doctors. What's sad is that everything the doctors said were things that anyone person could have easily pointed out. I mean honestly if and organization that is supposed to be a bastion of light in our darkest of hours can't put this all together in a simple statement then that organization loses a lot of credibility. Why is it that the ECA can't do this? The ECA that is supposed to be crusading this fight? The ECA should have been the first to say this. Not waiting for others to say it first then trying to jump on the bandwagon saying YEAH THAT'S WHAT WE THINK ALSO. Maybe you guys really need to look into PR firms because the sorry excuses I see on here make the ECA look even worse because it's still tap dancing around issues.

I think Lacey was trying to say the same thing I've been feeling for a week now. I can take all the reports in the world, compile them, extract data, line it up, surround it with pretty words, and say "LOOK! THIS IS THE TRUTH!"

...but I don't have letters after my name. I'm not a public figure. I have no credibility. Especially if I were a member of a pro-electronic-cigarette industry group.

Now if I'm a doctor who was a big part of the anti-smoking movement and I point to those same reports with the same pretty words and shout "LOOK!", people will actually take notice and not just dismiss me as "some dude on the internet."

    It's all about credibility.

So your basically saying that the ECA is just some dude on the Internet I take it. They are supposed to be an organization that needs to put out real statements. Last I checked organizations weren't just some dude on the internet. They need to earn credibility and by talking about the advertising and not addressing the dangers at this point in time gives them no credibility. At least not from everyone I've spoken to about it. The thing you have to remember is that they are supposed to an organization that is advocating for us. If they don't address the issue at hand, which again I'll say it, is that people are now talking about the dangers planted in their heads by the FDA then how are they to gain any credibility? By issuing out a statement about advertising to kids? I'll say it again, the issues that should have been brought out is the wretched testing that was done. Being an organization or some dude on the internet are 2 totally different things. The organization needs to gain credibility and with the statements and videos that I've been seeing they don't deserve any type of credibility by dancing around the subject. Now if was someone else like BigJim (no offense intended) then I would say yeah he's just a dude on the internet. Truth be told they are not that. And not to mention that Matt Salmon is supposed to be a person of credibility. He's not just some average Joe. He's a public figure. Or so I thought.

Those doctors are shouting in the wilderness. We need the shouting to be done on the network news.

Now... if the media will just take note and do a follow up... but that is something we can only pressure for...

Perhaps already on your list of news media to keep informed, but if not please add cbc.ca. They are covering this, most recently July 23rd, and that item can be found by searching their site for electronic cigarette.

Thanks for all your hard work.

OK, f- it. I've heard a lot of speculation about the ECA, and it's continuing now. I'm coming out in support of them. Like I said in a different thread, there's a chance that when this is all over the suppliers and the ECA are going to laugh skipping all the way to the bank, but for right now, we have about 2 organized groups. One is made up of industry folks (the ECA) and one is made up of consumers (LI Vapers and subsidiaries). BOTH groups have the same problem - they have no credentials.
Let's say you put Mr. Salmon on an MSNBC talking head show, with all kinds of notes surrounding him. On the other side of the table is Margaret Hamburg. Mr. Salmon starts talking about TSNAs and levels and amounts. Ms. Hamburg, having had extensive health and safety training, happens to know more about the subject than Mr. Salmon. End result = Mr. Salmon looks like a flounder. Put Spikey in that same position and she'll end up flat.

Now put Dr. Seigel or Dr. Nitzkin in that same place. Ms. Hamburg tries out her knowledge, and the good doctor can counter every claim she makes.

Who's the better advocate for health, safety, and scientific data?

Here's what the ECA is doing: addressing the *other* part of the press release. Gathering QUALIFIED people to talk about the health claims. And doing a crapload of other things that you and I don't know about.

I suggest that if you donated to them and don't feel that you're getting your money's worth, ask nicely if you can have that money back. If you didn't donate to them, you have no right to bitch, and can kindly shut up.

    Thanks!

    -Nate
