Default ECF Rules (Need Input) - Please Read

Hey Everyone,

As we all are aware, there have been some heated discussions about the clarification of what the “Forum Rules” are.

This morning Smokumchevy made some very good suggestions in the Mod Forum on this subject. Later I spoke with ApOsTle51 and he also brought up the fact that the forum rules needed more clarification because even though SJ’s rules were okay for 400 members, it no longer works for 11,000 members.

Taking that into consideration, I contacted SJ and he decided the best way to “update” the rules would be to have input from all forum members, so that is where we are at…

The goal is to update the old rules and incorporate new ones that are completely laid out and clearly stated.

I asked ApOsTle51 if he was willing to help me in this endeavor by giving me input on what he thought some of the rules should be. He agreed and even went out of his way to get things rolling. ApOsTle51 has provided a great starting point for all of the members to review and discuss.

As I wasn’t quite sure how to post all of this, lordmage suggested posting each rule as its own thread so we can track the suggestions and changes. This sounds good to me, so this is how it will be done.

So you can all see what ApOsTle51 provided, I will post it in full and lock that thread so no one can post in it. Then I will take one rule at a time and make a thread on it so everyone can make suggestions. However, just to clarify things, SJ does, and will have the final say on all rules that will go into effect.

As I post each rule thread, all I ask is that we stay on that topic. If you have a suggestion that does not pertain to the current thread, please make a note somewhere so when we get to that rule or when I ask if anyone knows of any other rules we should have you can post about it then.

Please remember - if the comments you post are off topic, they will be removed from the thread.

Before I start the first “Rule” thread – does anyone have any questions?
Rachel

Having a clear set of rules will be a great start. Having the mods use discretion in the application will be even better. It would be great to get back to being able to post without constantly second guessing yourself.

Nuck,
i do agree with what you are saying i think what we are trying to do with a new rule system is to take ECF to the point where users will know what will happen if the rules are broken. and of course what the rules are.

I read the next post with the (I assume) proposed rules. I did not see anything regarding a rule or points associated with questioning a mod, or a mod's decision. It seems like this is one of the things that fueled the fire over the last week, and I'm wondering how that will be handled under the new rules.

No, I saw that thread by SJ, but I did not see it referenced in the new proposed rules. I'm just wondering if it will be assigned a point value, or if it's still an immediate ban. Not that I'm planning on attacking any mods. I have not done so, and do not plan on doing so. You guys have a tough, thankless job that I would not wish on an enemy. I don't think it would be fun to be here with a target on your back, or living in a fish bowl, so to speak.

Hopefully once all is said and done there will be no need to question the mods because it will all be laid out in the rules. However, if it still a concern we can address it at a later time, when I get to the point where I ask if there is anything else that needs to be addressed.

Does this help?

One suggestion dnakr, you may want to post a link to this in one of the general subforums. I almost skipped right over this when browsing the board tonight
