Offensive content (Swearing) The post contains language presumed to be considered offensive by a majority of our users, or the poster has deliberately circumvented the swear word filter by misspelling a word, substituting certain characters, or crafting an abbreviation. If the swear word can be determined by context then this warning can apply. The sole exception to the abbreviation clause is "BS", which is deemed acceptable in abbreviated form only, and only in the context of "falseness". Suggested Infraction: |

This is a rule that I see broken the most, I've broken it myself and been banned. People (including mods) post swear words by replacing just one character. Seems there is some room for interpretation as to what's acceptable. ![]() However, seems somewhat silly to enforce a nanny rule regarding swearing on a forum for adults. I think there's a difference between using a swear word in a derogatory manner and not using it in a derogatory manner. OK Example: "I *****ed up my e-cig when I dropped it in a puddle." NOT OK Example: "You can go ***** yourself!" From the examples above, you can see there's a difference between coloring your speech and being derogatory. One needs mod intervention, the other doesn't, imho. A further note, to even make it a forum offense for even alluding to a swear word is draconian and serves no purpose on a forum for adults. This isn't the Sesame St. Forum on PBS. |

I agree....... Just let the filter do its job, as in most cases its used as an emotional expression describing a level of self annoyance. If it is directed at someone, as in the above example, then it also falls under "a personal attack" which is covered by another rule. VapeOn, Greg |

It brings up the question of just what is a swear word on here? For some, h*ll and d*mn are swear words, but yet theyre okay on broadcast tv in the U.S. And then there's the intl. bit and variances from country to country... I'm okay with no swearing, but think there should either be a list posted of what's not okay or leave it up to the filters. And a rule against getting around the filters with substitutions such as $ for an 's' is fine with me.

bizzy brings up a good point and so does too greg maybe just update the personal attack rule to include cussing and make this a simple guide line and not a rule.

The author has attacked another user's intelligence, character, or appearance and/or the post contains language (swearing) presumed to be considered offensive directed at another member. Suggested infraction: 1[/quote] How is this with merging personal attack and rule thread #7 (swearing)? |
