Intellicig Limited Black EVO Straight Out of the Box - E-Cigarette Forum

Straight out the box, the Intellicig EVO Black is a sharp looking little device. When I initially opened my box, my two batteries were blinking as if they were saying “we are close to 20% life and you better charge us”. I held myself back from trying my first ecig and went ahead to charge the batteries first as to prolong their lives. From what I have read, discharging your batteries past 20% life will permanently damage them to the point of no return.

Intellicig’s website says that the USB charger, the only one that I can use here in the States, should take roughly 20-30 minutes to fully charge. The packaging instructions say 1-2 hours. I’m assuming the 1-2 hour estimation is for the European charger. So anyway, when I plug the first battery into the USB charger and insert it into my laptop, it blinks 5 times to let me know it is charging. The batteries are then supposed to emit a solid blue light from the tip to indicate a fully charged battery. It was “charging” for over 2 hours and no solid light. Replaced that battery with another and charged for over 4 hours, no solid blue light.

Getting slightly impatient, I took the battery that charged for 4 hours off of the USB charger and assembled an EVO out of it, one of the atomizers and a new cartridge. Pulled on the EVO and got alittle vapor!

First impressions of e-smoke liquid:
This cartridge is one of the regulars that come with your order of an EVO black. Honestly, it tasted like a bowl pack of mj that was about to be finished, kind of a smokey syrup taste. Whatever, I can live with that, better than carbon monoxide and chemicals right?

When that cart was finished, I rinsed the wool and topped it off with some Arctic Mint from JC. I rinsed the wool because I wanted to experience the Arctic Mint in its purest form (i.e. no leftovers of the regular cart). I know everyone’s taste buds are different, but no Arctic Mint here. It did; however, taste like raspberries, explain that one to me.

To recap the experience from Intellicig’s Black EVO:
Ok, so out of the box I’ve got one suspect USB charger, two sketchy batts, one atomizer that works and one that half works. The halfway atomizer glows and gets hot but no vapor production. I drained it and tried again, no good. I’ve contacted Suzanne at Intellicig and hope to resolve my issues.

Overall, considering that these parts are supposed to come from a better quality supplier compared to the Chinese ones, I am slightly disappointed. I could understand the funky atomizer or even a battery gone bad, but all of these issues combined right out of the box doesn’t say much. I am very optimistic about everything and plan to give these EVO blacks a couple more days for the atomizers to break in and the batteries to quit acting up. If nothing has changed in several days then Intellicig will hear from me.

I always give new 401-402 bats at least an 8 hour charge for an initial. The quick charge is for subsequent recharges.

I am up to 7 chargers for my 401's and only the 2 that I got from Vapordrag will light up the bats when they are ready. I wouldn't count on it and would suggest a 2-3 hour charge. The shorter bats don't last nearly as long either, so you may want to pick up the longer 401's if you decide to keep it.

The atomizer can take 1-2 days of moderate use to really come alive. I have no idea why.

Thanks for the feedback! I plan on documenting my experiences for the forum community and for some market research. I find the eCig a very intriguing product with loads of potential. I know everyone thinks that the FDA is going to ban eCigs and their juice, but I believe that they will simply evaluate it, change some things if need be and then regulate its usage. No biggie, but for entrepreneurs like myself I must wait to see what the governing bodies determine. Government is one of the biggest external factors that any organization faces.

hey strictly, just a tip, the EVO usb charger will probably NEVER light up your tips for you. mine has only done so twice. general advice, just charge 1-2 hours with it, i've always gotten good life doing so.

I have two EVO usb chargers, 1 Stubby (looks like a micro sd reader, just a usb plug and a battery adapter) and one that has a 1' cord with a metal battery adapter (ohhh shiny!). The stubby never lights up my led upon completion of a charge, but then again I'm not too sure its charging (I've given up using it). On the other hand, the corded one charges a battery in 20-30 minutes.... I'm no expert, but i assume that can't be good for the battery. Right now I'm using the Smoore chargers, and they work like a charm. I carry the EVO chargers in my kit, but only as a last resort.

Ignore the '8 hour first charge', it's rubbish and stems from the ni-cad batteries of ten years ago. Put a couple of batteries in a box and they will light when rattled or shaken; when they need charging they will flash 8 times uniformly.
The stubby charger does not agree with some motherboards that seem to control power to the USB ports and cut it as soon as charging completes but before the light comes on permanently - the battery is charged though; that is from a systems engineer who has tested a number of different chargers that I have. My old PC lights 'em up every time but my new one doesn't.
The initial taste is the primer liquid which is not very nice and seems to apply to all atomisers, it should diminish after normal use with the first cart. If you are not getting much vapour, try adjusting the tightness that the battery is screwed to the vaporiser; I have a couple that only need just gentle finger tightening and vape like chimneys but another slight tightening and there's hardly any vapour.
If all that doesn't help then I'm sure Suzanne will.

Are you 100% positive about the first charge? All the manufacturers seem to include this in the instruction manual. I would love to not have to deal with initial charges.

The motherboard has nothing to do with whether the light comes on or not. I have 4 desktops and a laptop here as well as wall plugs with USB slots. The chargers that work, work on every device and the chargers that don't won't work on any.

I have the "stubby USB charger for EVO and it lights them up every time. It does take 3-4 hours, though.

Im noticing the 3-4 hour charge also.

So far, the EVO has been a good investment.
I havent smoked a cigarette for almost 2 days. Last time I tried to quit, day 7 is when my spirit broke and I lit up. So day 7 will be a good factor for determining the effectiveness of my ecig. Its doing a nice job as far as managing cravings. Actually, their are no cravings because my nicotine intake is controlled.

Some favorite things so far:
Does not smell - smoked in my boss's office today and he didn't complain
Does not linger - smoked in my apartment, no hotboxing
Does not hinder lung repair - it feels as if my lungs are working better
Does not leave taste - cigarettes left a nasty taste in my mouth all day, not EVO

My evo batteries never light up when fully charged. I just use the pilot hybrid charger with its indicator light to gage if its ready for use.
