Thumbs up AdapteveR Review

I was a pack+ a day smoker for 20 years. I started e-smoking in Feb 2009 with a DSE-901 kit. It was great, went to down to zero analogues the same day it arrived. I thought the battery life was great... for the first week. By the second week I was flipping batteries every 4hrs, so I placed an order for 2 more kits and a usb passthrough.

During that second month of e-smoking I was either driving myself mad trying to remember which of my 6 batteries still held a good charge and actually was charged, or frantically running from USB port to USB port like they were oases in the desert. It sucked. I started to look around for a better solution. I didn't see any that really called out to me other than the SD. But I am a cheap bastard who considers himself handy so I was sure I could whip up a mod.

By the end my fourth month of e-smoking and modding I had learned alot. Mainly that I am not half as handy, nor half as cheap as I should be when it comes to many small purchases; but also alot of little things - solder points suck, glued switches suck, plastic cases suck, solid strong connector fittings are important and hard to make, and stressing over when your PV is going to fail is no fun.

Which is why WhateveR's 901 cr123 battery adapter... machined and designed in the USA by me thread caught my eye. It sounded like he had addressed every problem I had encountered.

I wanted to make all my problems go away. I ordered one. It has made all my problems go away.

Not going to mention the vapour production or battery life because imho if you have tasted one 901 atomizer driven by a CR123 battery you have tasted them all, and battery life isnt a function of the adapter, but I do want to call out the things that I really appreciate:

It is a nicely machined chunk of metal. Fit and finish is great. Not a terribly sexy design, but extremely well thought out. Highly functional and sturdy. I have dropped it numerous times and its no worse for wear. Reasonably sized, fits the hand well. Solid atomizer connector, no sway, can tighten right down without fear. Atomizer connector is closed - no entry point for juice into the unit. No solder points, no glue, everything comes appart. Switch is a commodity part available at Radio Shack, even comes with a spare. I had to replace my switch as it failed on the second day and I was able to swap it out in under 15min with no tools. The button is slightly recessed, significantly more than that of an SD, pleasantly suprized that I have had no issues with accidental ignitions in my pocket. Elegant adaptor insert swap capability for future flexibility.

I can highly reccomend the AdapteveR to anyone who has had similiar experiences, or the same kind of concerns that I do. While it probably wont be the last PV I buy, it certainly could be if I wanted.

WhateveR - Thanks for a great PV!

Nice review TWiz!

Am just waiting for delivery of mine

Nice to see no comparisons, as you say all cr123 powered devices similar just quality of build etc which separates them!

Will do my own thoughts when receive mine

TWiz,

That is a nice review of the unit. It is a mod I am really thinking about getting because it seems like it would be sturdy and I need sturdy. I work in a warehouse and need something that can take the abuse I will most definitely put it through. As well as, it uses the 901 attys with my favorite whistle tip carts, which I seem to be partial towards.

I guess when he gets more in stock, I will jump on it. I'll go ahead and order my batteries, so they are here when the unit arrives.

Thanks so much, mama

How about a video review?

The adaptever, even if I don't like the name ( ) is a nice piece of handiwork!

I received my AdapteveR this past Saturday. It is simply the best! Sturdy, functional, well-crafted by hand, adaptable to different atomizers & soon different battery configurations as well, excellent vapor production with 901 and 510 atomizers, reasonably priced, made in the USA, and the seller (Thad) provides great customer service. I honestly believe that this will be the last e-cig I will ever have to (or want to) buy! It really is that good. No need for US vapers to pay excessively for hand-crafted excellence - it is available right here in the USA for a lot less - and the quality is simply the best!

I was not paid for the following:

Let me say the AdapteveR freakin rocks! Very well thought -out.
Built like a tank, flawlessly machined and MANY, MANY- vape possibilities.

I purchased the AdapteveR from Thad because of the versitility
of the unit itself-I figured it would be cheaper than buying ANOTHER dozen
different e cigs-I was right...just a little late LOL

I Love vapin a 510, but grew weary of the batt and cart issues involved, and that "drama" grew VERY impractical for me, especially at work. While waiting for the AdapteveR to arrive, I wanted to try a cartomizer type e cig, so I purchased a KR808d(nebula,vapor King-whatever you wanna call it)- This is a great unit BTW.

While doing some research I found out that the Kr808 cartomizers fit on a 901
pass through-thanx to GrimmGreen. So I ordered the 901 insert for the AdapteveR as well...w/ a little modifying of the 901 insert, I'm able to use the cartomizorz w/ The AdapteveR!

BUT>>>B4 you go hackin on that insert....this can also be achieved by modifying the cartomizor itself- which I'd recommend unless your confident in your abilities.
The greencig type cartomizorz require modifying as well, but work well also.

My initial AdapteveR purchase was the 801 version because thats all that was in stock and I wanted one YESTERDAY- knowing I could always get a diff insert, I just ordered one.

W/ the 801 insert, Iv'e been tail piping on a 302 atomizer.
Let me tell ya- I unexpectedly exhaled an opaque plume of vapor 4x4 ft in diameter---and almost fell over from the head rush.
Tail piping my "other" 510 mod w/ same voltage, and juiced w/ the same liquid,
wont throw fog, nor deliver nic like that.

I now have the longest running, consistant vape I'v ever had-only vapin 3 mos BTW
I can change the vape to fit the mood I'm in- for "flavor" and convenience, I use the cartomizer set-up. For a "cloud" of flavor- I use the tail piped 302 atomizer

I must admit...when i first researched the ecig-I thought the "die hards" w/
full blown PV's were, well...loopy. And face it, most of US are.

I WISH I'd done some more research-woulda saved me ALOTTA dough
via trial and error vapin w/ all the diff e-cigs available LOL

On a personal note:
My self- I'm willing to jump through whatever hoop I have to , whatever cost, to keep from goin back to smoking 2 pcks of analog cigs /day...thats how Ive justified the cost from day one( just thought that might help some body)-as of this writing 17 days w/no cigarets.

So the FDA and other big govt wanna be's can kiss my royal american ass.
By the time they outlaw this stuff, I'll have learned to make my own liquid also.
They'll not receive another taxing dime from me to get my nic fix-HA(w/ EMPHATIC MIDDLE FINGER IN THE AIR)

sorry-I went off on a tangent

The AdapteveR can do many types of vapes. Presently, I can vape a dse801 and a 302 w/ the 801 insert- and w/ the 901 insert, I can vape the dse901 and the Kr808 and the green cig cartomizorz w/ one unit. Those are the combos I'm aware of...I'm sure there are more.
Plus, additional power if needed.
I however, am content w/ one battery-FOR NOW
Additionally, I vape about 10 cartomizors / day on that one battery.

It can also vape a 510...but I already have a pv for that( a purchase made B4
I found Thads AdapteveR)

If your in the market for a PV-buy it you'll not be disappointed w/ ALL the room for experimenting you'll EVER need to find what works for you- at a FRACTION of the
$$$- As a proud owner of 8 other ecigs and mods that will sit in my drawer
untill called upon again, I speak from experience lol.
I no longer need to buy an e-cig to try it out and move on to try another 2 wks later.

Thad obviously takes pride in his work and takes pride in offering a whip-ass
mod. His customer service is top notch.

If I were to lose this PV-for whatever reason...I'd be re-ordering it AGAIN
w/o hesitation.

Awesome review Justdave! Funny and informative read. The AdapteveR sure looks nice. It came down to it and the Silver Bullet for me. I went with the SB simply because of button placement and cheaper adapters. I would LOVE to have both.

Anyway, what did you have to do to get the kr808 cartomizers working on the 901 connector? PM me the details or link if you don't feel like clogging up this thread
