Exclamation Some coil wicks really do burn ?

From another thread (Inner wick sticking out from under atomizer bridge

I'm very curious guy so I decided to take it all apart and see how its tick. Look like, metal wick from the Bridge pull the liquid up and lanyard meterials take over and coil heat the liquid and pass throught the Atomizer meterials. that that's how the fine Atomized Vapor is created. I think.

Mine was smelling because the metal Mash Materials were not picking up enough juice to heat and it was burning up the lanyard materials that heater coil wrap around in instead.

I took the materials out and burn it with my lighter and smell is confirmed.
    Very interesting.

You are quite sure that the wick material from inside the coil can be burned and produces a bad smell?

What is the atomizer - model and make?

Seems maybe some atomizers do have this problem after all (but not all).

This is very important to follow up on. That material should be burn-proof!

I agree, this is really easy to do if you just let your atty get too dry. Smoking lanyard is not comforting.

Kevlar (a kind of acrylic) could burn in the atty or by a cig lighter. Maybe this is used in some attys?

Fibreglass would not burn and that seems to be used in most atomisers.

There's good reason to believe that most attys use a burnproof wick material but it's just possible that it's not all.

Waiting on confirmation of the burnable wick.

Update: just checked out one of my 901 clones: after a vinegar clean. End on it's clear some soot between the threads (looks black) but from side is white and feels very good, as new. No problem with this wick. Before the clean I was worried as the wick seemed black and just fell apart when touched; but turned out that was deposit; the wick is fine.

Hope we can get some 501 owners to report their dismantled findings on the wick inside the heater coil. (Lots of reports f bad smells/tastes in the 501 forum. Perhaps it's just because tey run hotter and it's the juice or deposits burning.)

    Default wick

I bought a janty dura-c and had a bad burnt taste coming from the logo'd atomizer. I saw it getting red hot and some fibers sticking out. I pulled them out and they look like some kind of fiberglass fibers. Found out that these are the wick which is inside the heating coils. It acts to hold juice while the heating coils vaporize the juice.
Attached is a really good diagram of the atomizer with the wick inside the coil.

I purchased a Blu Starter Kit (don't have the part#) and around the time I started using the second cartridge I started to notice the burning smell. I read on here about blowing on the cherry end of the cig to clean the atomizer but it seems a lot of smoke comes off the atomizer and I get that burnt smell when doing that. I can't tell if there are fibers inside but there is definitely a burnt smell. I was trying a vanilla cartridge.

All of the BE112 atomizers (for an 801 fitting) that I have received from BesteCig in the past 2 weeks have this wicking material sticking out from the wire mesh, and all of them have been very sensitive and seemingly love to burn.

I'm really hoping that someone will work to create a better design and quickly. I now have 25 of these BE112's, and I'm forced to vape way too cautiously as a result. How frustrating...

Sounds like a new change in design/manufacturing or totally new hack manufacturer. I just ban stocked 15 801 attys from TW and ALL of them have only the classic metal mesh bridge with the ceramic cup holding the heating element.

I'd have to agree with all above that I would not want to see any kind or sort of other, cart filler like wicking material anywhere in the atty at all.
