If not... I reckon I'll forge ahead blindly!
I dont know much about 901's but if there is no lip at the top to catch the spring try running it vertical instead.. some here have done that with the 801's im not sure how close they are... Im using whistle 510 carts, however there no difrent on the inside then the round..

Hey scottbee, this is what I'm doing with the 901 carts. Working really well. I'm having better luck using poly also.

Dirt...
Any idea what the cut-length is on your spring? Give-or-take...

I've got it at half the depth of the cart. I found it easier to actually get the spring down into the bottom by cutting off the ends of the spring, the part where the coils are tight against each other. It's a bit of a trial actually getting the spring inserted but it seems to be worth the effort so far. I just cram the thing down to the bottom of the cart. I end up with the spring completely compressed in the bottom. Then I hook the upper end of the spring and pull up so the top of the spring is right about in the middle of the cart. Somewhat loose plug of poly and good to go.
Luck

I just tried this on my Sideshow this morning, so far so good. I can't wait to see the difference in performance today. Thanks Scotty, great MOD so far.

If by whistle top, you mean the one that is flat, not round, that is what I just did. It seems to be working, but I only did it like 10 minutes ago! LOL

I'm playing with this on a 901 whistle tip. Too early for a full review, but here are some observations:
Put the spring in lengthwise. I used my nippers to grab the end of the spring and "unscrew" it a bit.. making the spring conical in shape. Big end went into the bottom of the cart. That made it a little bit of a press fit... now the spring won't fall out and it stays centered in the cart.
I held the little "ball" of filler in my tweezers and "singed" the ball with my Bic lighter. That got rid of all of the errant fibers (that often end up down in the atty) and made the ball "hold together" a bit nicer on removal. It just made for a nicer "plug".
