I'm been trying this since yesterday morning and it works great with one exception. I'm wondering what (if anything) you guys are doing when it's time to refill. I've been removing the bit of fluff, which is kind of messy and annoying but didn't see a way around that part.

It's worth it regardless, but was curious to know if there's a way around that which I hadn't read about yet.

This is absolutely amazing I'm a dripper and have been for quite a while but I'll probably set this up for a PV connected to my passthrough in my car cause dripping and driving is bad news haha...

4081 users!! Just a quick note it also works with the 4081!!.. I pulled the lil white internal cart out of my Njoy cart and cut a spring to run vertical got about 9 drops in that lil sucker and works really good with that model too.. the 5 hit wonder has turned into a 30 or so wonder plus the 4081 attys seem to be more heavy duty then any attys out right now.. give it a try btw..you can get that lil internal cart out with tweezers.

I don't use the poly-filler. The fish tank filter or the greenie pad is more "springy" and doesn't have all of the little strings coming off of it. When I finally had to refill last night, I grabbed it with some tweezers Drew sent me (the kind that stay closed when not in use & you squeeze to open) so they hold the plug while I refilled the cart. Then I used the tweezers to put it right back in. I never even had to set the tweezers down - I kept them in the same hand which held the empty cart - no mess at all.

If you don't have those kind of tweezers, I highly recommend them!!

One of the tricks is that the material has to be easily accessible. I've been playing around with Kristen's straw idea. Cut a drinking straw to 16mm (for Joye510 round cart). Then cut it in the middle and remove a thin strip to decrease the diameter. Or you don't have to remove the piece, just let it wrap around itself. Works like a champ, Kristen! What I've added to this is to cut a little angled chunk "/" out of the bottom so air and juice can flow at the bottom. Just like you'd do on the coffee stirrer straw mod. This would seem to be the perfect solution to modding a 801 cart which doesn't have the lip to support the spring. One of the beauties of this variant is that you can make a bunch from one straw really fast and easy. No rusting. No falling out. Somebody has to try this out on an 801 and let me know.
That's true, but it takes up valuable liquid space! Do you think the angle cut at the bottom makes as big difference? what do you think about cutting out a few "V" shaped chunks around the bottom (like an inverted crown)?

I found that 2 stirrer straws added works great. I believe that krisitin first suggested this. I noticed that after several refills there was fluid still at the bottom of the cartridge. By using 2 small stirrers, cut to the right length, it seems to relieve the vacuum and allows me to vape until the cartridge is completely empty. As a side note, it is truly amazing how much better these mods work vs the "stock" configuration. I bet that 80% of people who try e-cigs give up due to the poor performance out of the box. That's a shame!

The copper sponge is a perfect material that doesn't take much place (almost nothing) and is a perfect heating element.

Then I put the poly fiber on top of the cart as a cap, that would serve both as a retainer and as a diffuser.

But I'm still trying to improve it.

On a 510 cart, you need a thicker cap than on a 901 or 801 cart, because when it flows, it flows, and the 501 atty needs less drainage than a 901 or an 801.

It's also interesting to notice that the older the poly, the better it becomes, since the thicker it gets, thus better retention.(at least for a 501)

I really encourage anyone to try it and to improve it...I don't have much time right now to work on it, but it is worth a look.

Did anyone try the copper sponge as a support to the "filler plug" ? Each sponge has kilometers of wires rolled as a spring so no shortage ever

I tried it and it makes a great vertical spring/spiral that holds the poly plug very good, and even permits some movement to it, so it can eventually embrace the wick around the atty.

The copper spring inside the cart, does not, i repeat, does not occupy more than something like less than half of a drop.

    It is stable and clean.

My only problem with it, and with using the poly as a "Plug", is the density needed for the poly plug.

The more the atty is demanding, the less density the poly plug should get.

But then...density of poly and flow needed, vary according to many other parameters, like juice type and consistency, voltages, atty's age and consumption, and poly instant status (a fresh clean poly leaks more and quicker than a used one)

Those parameters are sometimes hard to guess and handle....but overall, it's a very good system.

Thanks to SCOTTYBALLS for bringing it up.

EDITED!! Do not use the green heavy duty pads, as they have abrasives embedded in them. Use the blue non-scratch ones.
