Cold Pen-Style Atomizers. Broken wiring? NOPE!

Great video and ideas Terraphon! Thanks to both you and Sun for the teamwork!!!

I have a penstyle and a couple of dead atomisers, completely dead. I'm going to soak them in soda water to see if anything happens. What strength would you mix it and do you think using distilled water would make any difference? (Avoiding mineral deposits, chlorine, etc.)

Off topic: I had the pleasure of sitting front row center for a Phil Collins concert about 10 yrs ago. ...Unforgettably great show!!! I thought about "In the Air Tonight" with the way these great ideas are coming to you.

Actually, I wouldn't think that distilled water would do the trick.

The key is the carbonation...If the liquid isn't carbonated, there's no carbonic acid and that's the key to this fix. Also, the bubbles will help to break up the deposits by getting into small fissures in the carbon and will help carry it away from the atomizer as it breaks up.

I'm thinking that soda water has the same amount of carbonic acid as cola does but I'm not sure. I also know that most colas contain citric acid and that's probably a factor as well.

Soda water with a bunch of lemon juice in it? That'll be my next go, I think.

EDIT : As for mixture, go pure...Hit the grocery and get a bottle of "club soda"...that's carbonated water. Put the atomizer in a glass or small bowl and fill 'er up. Should work, a treat.

But I would like to point out that if you take care of your atomizer well in the first place that it wont need this type of deep cleaning to often.. Keep the atomizer moist and it will last a long time..

Phylo--Most Members do take better care of their atomizers--this is not a user end problem--there is no way to avoid an atomizer issue and I have not had one that ever lasted more then 3 weeks although some report a month. In any regards, others are DOA and others fail in a matter of a week--so it is not for want of due diligence by us. The Penstyles have a huge mesh wick that is capable of a lot of absorbtion and hence a lot of residue build up to the coil. I can not concur that "keeping the atomizer moist" is the factor here--draining overnight is key.

What Terraphon seems to have hit on here is what the manufactures where trying to do with the battery cleaning cycle, but the cycle simply does not work, for the carbon needs to be broken up with a acidic compound like Pepsi or Coke to loosen it up before it gets hit with high heat and then shattered with the cold water---I simply refuse to buy the fact that atomizer failure is a function of user error or neglect---Sun

If I may, touching on the hot atomizer, cold water issue...

I honestly don't know if that did anything or not...I didn't do that with the one I had which was "cold" and it woke up very well with just a bit of scraping and a pepsi-bath.

I did the hot atomizer/cold water thing as an afterthought. I know that it works on grills, pots, pans, etc...so I figured it might work on an atomizer, too.

If the one I have now starts to play up again I'm going to do this without that step and see how it works out...We may be able to eliminate a step.

I hate to be the bearer of good news, but I have several atomizers that are over 6 months old, and I have customers who have been using the same atomizer for a hell of a lot longer than 3 weeks or a month..

I have sold thousands of these things and maintain relationships with several of my customers who were heavy smokers and use there e-cigs constantly. I'm not saying that there aren't bad atomizers or atomizers that go bad. But I am saying that if properly taken care of an atomizer can last quite some time... I actually have an atomizer that is rapidly approaching its one year anniversary and its one of the ones I use pretty heavily.

What I do to keep my atomizers going is "KEEP THEM WET" I dont wait till the vapor production drops off to add liquid to my cartridge (yes I drip into the cartridge and not the atomizer, its to easy to flood the atomizer and harm the battery). I clean my atomizers by boiling them every month or so as well..

And yes I have a crap load of e-cigs sitting on my desk that I use, but they are also the e-cigs I take out with me so that people can try them.. Its amazing how many people want to try it when you are out drinking at a non-smoking bar!!!

Great video terraphon.....will have to try a bit of coke now........It's one of the few things left that I haven't tried............if the coke actually is a repeating success in cleaning then it's going to make vaping a lot better for us all.

If your heating the atomizer up red hot and dripping it in cold water, I think you can skip the soaking in everything. It's the extreme temp. change that's doing all the work. Try it without soaking and see how it works.
