Is there a reason people don't use plain old cotton?
I didn't use no spring or straw, I just rolled up a round piece and stuck it in a full cart and it's working perfect. So what if you have to stick another piece in on refills its too easy. And i'm not even sure you have to as I am just tring this now for the first time. I find it hard to believe nobody has done this being as it is sooooooooo cheap and easy. So I am asking..
Has anyone tried plain old cotton?

The only drawback to the cart plug mods is refilling the carts. You either have to have tweezers with you or get juice on your hands by trying to remove the plug that is saturated with juice. I know what I want but I haven't found one. I used to do a lot of pistol shooting and had a very good lubricant in a plastic bottle that had a steel needle on it to drip oil into tight places. What I would like is to find one of these bottles to use to refill the carts. The needle doesn't need to be sharp, blunt would be OK. You can slip the steel needle between the cart and the plug and fill the cart from the bottom reservoir.

Has anyone seen such a bottle?

SO I go to PetSamrt today to grab a package of the infamous blue foam...and there was not ONE single package of blue foam/Fluval/Enheim (spelling) to be had!

All I can say is there must be a LOT of vapers in the Columbus GA/Phenix City AL area!

SHOW YOURSELVES! :-D

Anyway, what I ended up buying is the Rena Micro Filtration Filstar xP. There are three 6x6x.5" white pads in the box for $4.49. The pads are made from cotton, but they look and feel like a green scrubbie pad. The half inch thickness compresses well.

So I did the straw/plug mod and it works great!!! It also works well with the spring mod, but you just have to make sure it's packed well on either side of the spring (even packed, it still draws very well).

Just thought I'd share.

Hello,This is my first post. Just got my 401 about a week ago from LiteCig and although i think i got a bad battery, really loving it!

Anyway, in my short time Ive done a ton of experimenting. Just gotta know how things work. One thing I've noticed about the 401 is that the draw is a little strange or "rough" feeling and believe it or not, it seems a little loose to me.

So a friend brought over a Blu-cig and left some carts behind. What I noticed in trying her Blu was that the draw is very smooth feeling compared along side of the 401. It's noticeable. I think the reason for this is the inner cart design differences. The inner cart of the 401 is narrower than the mouthpiece and uses "fins" on the outside to make it fit, but allow airflow. I believe the feeling of the 401 draw is due to the way the air flows over these "fins".

The Blu inner cart uses a different design. The inner cart fits snuggly into the mouthpiece, using a flat side "cut out" shape to achieve air flow.

So what I found was that the inner cart from the Blu fits great in the 401 mouthpiece! So I tried it out, and it worked great! The feeling of the draw is greatly improved. the annoying "whistle" of the 401 was reduced also. And I swear i got better wicking, and better vapor production.

So there were two problems. 1) I'm pretty sure the Blu cart holds less juice. 2) The shortness of the blu inner cart would mean pushing the cart down to the bottom with the paper clip wouldnt work, resulting in the atty bridge not meeting the filler.

Possible solution to number both: You could easily take 2 inner blu carts, cut the closed end off one, and glue it to the other to the desired length. You would use the filler from both, together in the new bigger cart. get a few blu carts and turn 10 into 5 or whatever. This would significantly increase the amount of juice one cart would hold, probably even more than the 401 holds as it is. Also, this would obviously solve the height issue.

Easier solution to number two only: to get around modding the inner carts, you could Use a hot paper clip or a very small drill to make a hole in the side of the mouthpiece. Large enough to see through. Placing the hole in exactly the lowest position that the top of the inner cart could be. Then if you slide the inner cart too far, you will get obvious airflow issues, and/or see through the hole that you had gone too far. The way to find this position in the first place is to slide it all the way down, put the cart on the atty, then push the inner cart up slowly from the bottom hole until it stops. I guess from here its up to the eyeballs.

You could also use the toothpick method for topping off. rather than moving it.

Anyway, nobody cares about any of these neurotic things, But hopefully this will help someone. If anyone's interested I can post a follow up after i do the mod.

Thoughts?

Was screwing around and came up with this.... gives people a basis for ideas. If you get it successfully, you'll just need to send me a few!!!

The back mouthpiece of the 510 cart pops off with a paperclip or such. Once you do this there is another hole. Insert a pick of some type and this also removes. Now you can see all the dead air space in the cart! I heated my pick and punched a hole through the rectangular bottom of the liquid resevoir. I then took a cart insert (white piece) from an RN4075 (I think this is the model, aka NJOY NPRO) and trimmed a very small slice off it with an exacto knife (razor). When inserted into the mouthpiece end of the 510 it sat flush. I pulled it back out and ran a ring of superglue (had no epoxy or silicone) around the lip of the RN4075 cart and re-inserted keeping the rectangular edges of both cart pieces lined up. Let dry and it held 29 drops of water. Then it leaked ;-(. Using epoxy or a silicone type material would work. This also would not disrupt the air path for taking a hit. Using this 29-30 drop resevoir with the ADM plug mod should work well. Someone give it a shot (who has the right material) and let me know!!!I have other ideas here in process. One uses the original end of the 510 cart and pops off to reveal an injectable resealing membrane for filling...

This is a variation on this very clever mod:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/for...-drip-mod.html so I thought I should post this one in a seperate thread.

There was some concern about the metal spring corroding. With a 510, you can use the natural ledge on the inside, but that sits pretty far into the reservoir. Or you can special order plastic springs. This method eliminates the metal and also works on carts that are smooth on the interior. It also uses everyday items. This also incorporates Scottbee's notching idea & uses a springier filler like Scotch Brite blue non-scratch scrub pads (one without abrasives) or the blue fish filter foam.

Supplies:
One drinking straw or coffee straw
Scotch Brite Non-scratch Pad or Ehiem Fish Tank Filter
Scissors
Tweezers

Remove the polyfill that came with the cartridge & discard. Cut a drinking straw to about 4 mm below the open end of the cart & notch the bottom. Slide into the cart. If the diameter is too wide to fit in the cart, cut the straw all the way through lengthwise, to remove a section of it. It'll roll back into a tube on it's own. Or use two coffee straws cut to equal length.

Press the end of the empty cart on the greenie to get a template. Cut off the piece. Fill the cart with about 15 drops (on a 510) and plug the end with the filler material using a tweezers. Prod it gently and you should see some of the liquid seep into the pad.

If it floods the atty or leaking, you need to cut a larger piece to seal the end better. If it's not wicking, cut a smaller piece. The only purpose of the straw is to keep the plug from sliding into the reservoir.

You can do a LOT of cart mods with one straw and a pad! :)

Very simple and effective..

Take a spring from a click pen, cut or stretch it so that when placed in the cart it's about 1/4" (6mm) below the top of the cart, fill the remaining space above the spring with a plug made from your filler of choice, I'm using the regular poly, fit the plug so that it sits a little below the rim of the cart.

The spring provides light constant pressure, and keeps the plug in contact with the atomizer

The measurements I've given work well with my 801 low bridge, an 801 high bridge would need a shorter spring length. The optimal spring length would need to be established for other brands of atomizer.

Some are concerned about corrosion of the spring, I've taken the springs from several pens and have found that some are flimsy and dark in color, which I have rejected, and others that are bright and of a heavier gauge, these are the ones I'm using.

Thanks to marcus49ath for introducing the first spring mod.

Good luck :)

So I headed to the only other option in town, a 'mom and pop' pet store. I went in, told the owner was I was looking for and looked down and saw a HUGE spool of blue foam and a bunch of pre-cut sheets! I bought two 1.5'x .5' pieces figuring that would suffice to experiement w/ this mod. Sweet find indeed :)

For info on the newest version of the Blue Foam Plug (BFP), titled "The Slug" v2.0 please head to page 15 post # 141.:)

This mod is for the 510 cart.. Dont have a 510? Buy one! lol.. Joking! But seriously, you might like it using this mod ;)
This is kinda like the filter pad mod but i could'nt get that one to wick.

This is a Foam plug at the top of the cart only not a foam pad filler liek the other foam mod.. This mod lets you fill the entire cart with juice only and you use the foam pad to just plug the very top of the cart. The foam holds the juice in and wicks it perfectly to the atty!

P.S. I dont see why this wont work in other carts even if theres no lip inside it to hold the foam. The foam is springy enough and if you cut it much wider then the cart it may hold as long as you place it inside in the right spot so the bridge just touches it and dont push it down in. Could try it "Dry" with no juice and see if the foam holds.

Since i dont like the idea of the spring in the cart as it will probably rust over time i thought of something i think is better.

Been thinking about it for awhile now but could never think of what would be safe enough to plug the top of the cart and hold the juice and wick perfectly.
This mod works and you must try it.. I believe this "IS" what everyone has been looking for.. It just wicks and wicks away as fast as you want to hit your e-cig and it never floods the atty period! Keeps the wick nice and moist. I've honestly refilled the cart so far 4 times using the same plug and its STILL working the same as the first time! :)
THE SEARCH IS OVER!

Simply put.. Use a small piece of foam to plug the top of the cart and fill the cart with liquid. The piece is down far enough thats it hits the bridge perfectly and will stay in place.

The blue foam i'm using is called Bonded Foam Sleeve Rite Size U. Made for HOT Magnum Canister Filters.

So far its hitting awesomely and no leaks!

The foam is springy enough to hold in place and wicks perfectly. DONT LEAK,Never floods the atty and no juice in the mouth! Its perfect! When its dry, you'll know as no vapor will produce as theres no juice left like other fillers. It uses ALL the juice! You'll see when you pull the plug off to refill.
Thats the only prob is that it will be tuff to refill on the go.. but since its that good and it dont waste juice, theres no reason why you could'nt have a few carts ready to go with caps on them. At home its no big deal to pull it off with tweezers and fill it back up and pop the plug back on.

Heres a pic of the foam pad.. Made by Marineland, called Foam Bonded Sleeve Rite Size "U"

Heres a pic of the stuff.. Notice the one i'm holding is in a U shape. Thats how it comes. The package had 3 of these and i cut one at the seems to make 2 sheets. You can find this at a Pet store in the fish area. I bought it at Pet Smart.

Heres the setup.. You'll need a clean sharp pair of scissors and some tweezers. It would be smart about right now to take the large uncut sheet and wash it with some mild hand soap and rinse well just to remove any taste from the material.. I've notice this helps alot. pad it dry with some paper towel.

this one pretty easy and so far is working very well. compared to PTB and stock poly and other poly fills that i have used.

what you need

a cart
a piece of heat shrink that will fit right in the cart
and a needle

it pretty simple slide the heat shrink in the cart mark where to cut it i went about 1/8 inch in the cart.

after the heat shrink is cut you need to heat just the tip to make it shrink

once it is shrunk and you have just a little o slide it in your cart

take a needle and poke a hole on the bottom part where the cart clips into the mouthpiece.

now take some polyfill and roll it up in to a tight ball that will fit right in the top part of the cart

then pull out the polyfill and fill the cart up i put about 20 drops in it and don't get any leakage

gray is polyfill
pink is hole
bule is fill area
red is heat shrink

good luck let me kbow how it works.
