Fumes: This native has made the 800 mile, two day trip, four times to witness something which you clearly have no interest in. Different strokes for different folks.
BTW, my first three manned launches were the last three Apollo Moon shots. The Saturn V stack is approximately double the height of the Shuttle stack. In flight, the plume is about 1,000 feet long. And, they were headed to the MOON!Even you would have to be impressed ... I think. Apollo XVII was the only one launched at night. A near religious experience for me.
EDIT: The Apollo launches were pre-camcorder technology. But, of course, I took video of my Shuttle launch.

“The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president"
... Mitch McConnell (Grand Obstructionist Party)
i.e., If he's for it, we're opposed, and we will sabotage economic recovery if that will aid us in achieving our goal.
Wow! Thanks NCC! These are some great videos. They are actually collecting photos and memories of all the folks who have worked out at KSC or been part of the launches. I don't know if they collect videos but these are awesome.
Oh yeah! I forgot to add that I was very little but we lived in Satellite Beach during some of the Apollo launches so I do recall a little bit of it. Still I would've loved to have seen them up close at the center back in the day.

NCC, dont get me wrong. NASA has done the impossible. But watching the launch from70 miles away is really no big deal. The first launch I saw here I was excited and told my neighbors, but they have seen it since they were infants and just dont bother anymore. I know how they feel. It just looks like someone puffin a real big mod. lol

I watch from my back yard and am jealous of those that have gotten the extreme experience with the rumble of the ground under your feet. It always feels like the first time for me and I get chill bumps from all over. I really can't understand why some feel as if it is like taking out the garbage.
Gotta say seeing a launch at sunset when I lived in Cocoa (the city NOT Cocoa Beach) it was a breathtaking sight. The landings tho....my first one I thought someone set off a bomb. All the windows and sliding glass doors went *BAM*
But I need tacos! I need them or I will explode, That happens to me sometimes!
Last night's boom-boom landing startled the heck outta me! That is the one unique thing about the Shuttle that won't be heard again after the last flight. Weird.
