It's just experimenting with flavor. I think the taste from flavored e-liquids is wimpy. I want a taste hit. So the idea is to cook up some tobacco flavor (I'm been using really good pipe tobacco) and add it to a glycerine base as flavor. Then I complement the tobacco taste with another flavor -- vanilla in my experiments so far, but I want Bickford's Kahlua. You can use this to cut or extend commercial e-liquid, too. I have 24mg e-liquid in a large quantity now so I can cut that stuff pretty strongly and still have a known nicotine level with a taste I like.

Kit- I just ordered (but haven't received yet- seems to e takign al ong time to get hte order) 32 ounces of PG for $17 and I can get soem Swisher Sweet Ciggarettes for abotu $5.00 which will make quite a lot of homemade E-Liquid. I'm not sure how much E-Liquid sells for, but making your own is a lot lot cheaper- and you can buy Bickfords extracts for $3-4 if you want ot add flavors which won't add a lot to the overall cost per volume of E-Smoking liquid even if you bought several bottles. Making hte nicotine juice is quite easy- just boil it down- stir once in awhile, squish the tobacco somehow (You don't even have to do that, but I liek to to get perhaps more flavor out) and then add abotu 80% PG or Glycerin then just flavor to taste.

Bob, I've run straight extract (McCormicks Raspberry extract) in my dry Carts (put neough in until the cart looked good and soaked, but not to point of drpping ouit the mouthpiece) and still the flavor in the smoke was very whimpy- I honestly couldn't tell if it was giving off any flavor- but then again, my sense of taste isn't very good. I'll try a dab of Vanilla tonight, see what happens- but out of Rum, Brandy, Raspberry, lemon, and butter flavored extracts- the only one I could taste really was the butter extract one & it left a long lingering taste that overpowered everyhtign after it.

If you find some good strong flavor combos, good enough to come through the tobacco flavoring, let us know what they are- So far, my experience with flavors hasn't produced anythign too good- even when runnign straight extract into hte carts.

Nazareth, who is your source for food grade PG? I wouldn't mind cooking up some American Spirit and making my own liquid. 8-)

Naz, don't boil the tobacco. Start it on simmer and leave it on simmer. For the life of me, at the moment I can't remember why it should never be boiled -- but I remember reading that. Simmering works fine. As I mentioned in another thread, you might try using the propylene glycol instead of water when you simmer the tobacco. Perhaps the PG will absorb both more flavor and as much nicotine as water would. Water doesn't absorb flavor essence well, but does nicotine. We need both.

Do keep in mind to work with a very small pot. About three inches diameter -- tops. Use a small scoop of tobacco. Cover with fluid and cook. That little pot ends up producing a lot of liquid after filtration.

Yeah, I mean simmer- but wrote boil- I make sure the water never bubbles, but is right at the point where it could if heat is turned up just a little. I'd thought about using PG to boil, but doesn't it have pretty low flash point? I was a little nervous abotu hte proceedure but thought I might ty it when I get hte PG

Bob is this really a cheap way of getting nicotine because your still buying tobacco surly a good e- liquid supplier is best or not ?
Depends where you live. I can get 50 grams of tobacco for 10 cents here in Thailand.
I'm very interested in making my own e-liquid. But a bit worried about the dangers.
Apparently, just a couple smalls drops of pure nicotine on you skin can kill you!

I've found this interesting page about how to make pure nicotine
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...3163309AA7f6DI

Has anyone got any experience with making nicotine?
I'd like to know more about this before I try, I don't want to end up dead while trying to make something to be used to prevent an early death from tobacco smoking. :?
