e-cigs might not damge your health, but watch out for pipe batteries in The E-Cigarette; You're lucky that battery didn't explode. I don't think those pipe batteries have protection circuit boards. Lithium ion batteries DO ...

You're lucky that battery didn't explode. I don't think those pipe batteries have protection circuit boards. Lithium ion batteries DO NOT LIKE SHORT CIRCUITS! Neither do balls!
I had an old mod one with a slide on/off switch and left it on in my jacket pocket one day....hmmm.....I sent 4 MiMH batteries and one atomizer into thermonuclear overdrive.

Cheese graters could also be marketed and sold as sponge ruiners. Think about it.

Maybe a spring action slide would be a good idea.

Can't you also cause a problem if you put the battery in the wrong way? Doesn't it heat up and ruin the atomizer or something? Or am I thinking of something else?

Just recently got my 888 and I love it.
The thing that concerned me was that the cover was VERY sloppy and would indeed come off in my pocket.
Solution turned out to be pretty simple and easy!
Took off the battery cover and removed the battery and dug out a pair of needle nosed pliers. The cover tabs and the ones in the bowl looked either too flimsy to be bending on or requiring more disassembly than I wanted to do.
Sooo, I reached down into the bowl with the pliers and pulled up on the spring CAREFULLY and SLOWLY until I had it stretched out enough to put enough pressure on the battery to make the cover pretty solid. Stretch the spring out some and try it, repeat until you get it to a point where the cover is comfortably solid.
Don't yank hard on the spring, I'm pretty sure you could damage it to the point where a major disassembly / fix would be required or effectively trash the pipe.
Worked out nicely but it might need to be repeated at some interval, waiting to see now.
Hope this helps!

I guess the solution is to cover the ends of the spare battery with masking tape.
Another problem I encounter with the mini-pipe is that the lid comes off easily with just a slight turn. Have you solved this problem?

always out them in something plastic or none conductive.. never mix them with other metal objects.. loose change and keys being a lethal mix..
i have had one explode in my pocket.. a stupid trick and i should (do) know better.. but i still managed to do it..
be warned.. something worse might happen to your balls than simply getting warm... he he

Good thing
Good thing that didn't happen to me...I would have dropped my pants, no matter where I was. Ever stand in a fire ant hill? That will make anyone do it. LOL

Well the LED in whatever device you have is a reverse biased Light Emitting Diode, so if you forward bias it (putting the batt in backwards), it is essentially a short circuit until it fries. Short circuit = HEAT.
