| Hi Gang - I am new to this forum. I have been lurking and reading without registering. I am one of those people who are totally addicted to smoking to get my nicotine. I have tried to quit smoking soooo many times and 10 month, 13 month, 7 month, 5 month and many 3-4 month. I used nicorette lozenges - actually I became just as addicted to expensive nicorrette products than I was to cigarettes. I gained so much weight every time I stopped smoking and just used nicorette products. Lately I discovered E-cigarettes and I really like smoking them - my house sure does not stink from cigarette smoke anymore! I ordered some 2 minis, and 3 extra atomizers DS901 and 4 extra batteries so I had 8. I think, the cartridges sucks! And I ordered some E-Liquid to keep them more moist and produce more smoke - a trick I learned on this forum. I am not dripping - just using a drop on the fibrous material in the cartridges when they get dry - and they get dry fast! I am just wondering and worrying whether I will gain weight again now that I have quit smoking real cigarettes - what are your experiences? Have you gained weight if you exclusively smoked E-cigs? To me it seems like it is all the other substances in cigarette smoke that increases the metabolism and makes the body work overtime - causing smokers to weigh less. |

| I was extremely fit and atlethic in my early 20es. Then I tried to quit smoking - I gained 20 pounds. I did not stop working - gym and running. The extra weight I gained was obviously too much for my knees and injuried my meniscus in one of my knees - so I could barely walk from the pain. I have not been able to run much ever since - max 20 min on the threadmill. I can swim and use my bike. But i never lost the weight I gained from trying to quit smoking - over the years I only gained more and more - in spite of all attempts to control my diet and exercise as much as I could. So basically quitting smoking and the gaining weight disabled me and destroyed my knee. Know I wonder if I will gain more weight just getting nicotine from E-cigs? Because maybe it is just like nicorettes? Time will tell I guess, but perhaps some of you have experiences? |

| You haven't quit. In your prior abstinent state you probably put a cake in your mouth instead of a cigarette (I know I did). This time around that isn't a factor - put the e-cig in your mouth instead. Lots of people here have reported improved fitness levels due to the absence of crap (mostly CO and CO2). Emp

| Unless, of course, nicotine is fattening. If so, we're all screwed...

| Emp is right. You likely substituted food as a reward for not smoking. You stayed at the table longer, continuing to eat. You sucked candies to quell cravings. You had a better appetite without cigarettes. All of that put on the pounds. None of those are factors in e-smoking. You can e-smoke instead of eating candies or lingering at the all-you-can-eat buffet place. And it's nicotine that revs up your metabolism, not the carcinogens in tobacco smoke. You'll still have nicotine from e-smoking; making your heart beat faster, consuming more calories, etc. I have experienced NO weight gain in six months of e-smoking. If you have further problems, review the alternatives to cigarettes section. I'm a big believer in Swedish snus -- all day, all the time. Cuts the old appetite to near zero. |
