My Kissbox battery caught fire!!
Placed the kissbox case in my pocket and felt weird that it was feeling hot. So i took it out and got a shock. One of the batteries felt extremely hot and my thumb got burnt.
Immediately I flicked the battery out of the case and within a minute it was on fire!!
Is this due to a battery leak? I have not charged both batteries for 2 days.
Hope this is an isolated issue. Imagine if i did not take it out and kept the case in my pocket!

well, this is the risk with any Lithium battery. It happens even with brand name products (dell, sony) so what can you expect from a cheap batt?
You can't guarantee it won't happen with another one. Try to make sure you never short them and use them only with a charger fit for them (they need a very exact voltage and current, you can't just use any charger from another model, even if they have similar ratings). Even with these precautions it might just catch fire so you may want to deposit them in places where they can't do much damage , ie near the toolboxes and not near books, and definitely not in your pants' front pocket

Wow talk about good service! Ludo offered to replace the batteries and charger free. Hope my investments do not go up in smoke literally.

That's great! As long as the new ones aren't more flammable

Glad you were able to get it away from you before it caught fire. This is the first time I have read that the battery actually caught on fire. Now that is something to worry about. Hope as Papagoatee stated, that it was an isolated issue.

One more concern the anti movement will use against e-smoking. E-cigs are a fire hazard, after all. These things need a kind of automatic shut down-temperature sensor.
But at least laptops weren't banned when they began bursting into flame. We soldier on.

Yep, this exact same thing happened to me (except the battery didn't actually catch fire - just red-hot). Definitely not pleasant.
I agree with Bob...we need to give the anti-movement as little "ammunition" as possible with which they can use to ban/over-regulate, etc. - And this kind of thing doesn't help!

nickle metal hydride battery technology could be used its safer but much bigger..
however a decent sized e smoking device could be made around three AAA sized cheap metal hydride off the shelf batteries.. these would give 760 ma at 3.6 volts and work way better than the micky mouse cr-ap we now have.. and not catch fire..
the downside for some.. it would not be cigarette sized or even vaguely resemble one..

Trog,
Didn't you post a pic ages ago of something like that you'd cobbled together ?

i did.. it was based on a four AA battery holder and some metal hydrides i had laying around.. it worked nicely with a battery run time of two days heavy usage.. i had to saw a cigarillo in half to make it.. it used three AA batteries and a blank..
if one wants to make one to use for real.. find a flat four AAA battery holder.. chose your atomizer .. a classic is probably as good as any.. rip the end piece from a dead classic battery.. fit this in the fourth battery space at the end.. u only need room for three batteries.. screw your atomizer of choice into the brass end piece occupying the fourth battery space having wired it up.. it would need a small push to make switch sourcing from somewhere putting in circuit..
it should give nearly a days usage on one charge.. and cost bugger all..
