Cart Mod for better refilling
As for the straw, it's pretty simple. Use a coffee stir stick or q-tip shaft (hollow ones of course) and cut one end at an angle. Place the open side of the "bungee stick" in between the wadding and the side of the cartridge and slide in down until it bumps the bottom of the cart. Cut the other end off flush with the top of the cart with a pair of scissors.

With some of the methods I have seen for cleaning, some users have reported the black paint coming off off the atty. Is a soak in rubbing alcohol safe for the paint on a "new style" 510 atty? I have also thought about a simple 5-10 minute boiling in plain 'ol water.
Having had my 510s for a couple weeks now, I feel like they could probably go for a cleaning but I don't want to ruin their looks.

I noticed someone say they black paint came off also, but that was after 5-6 DAY soaking. I'm not sure why anyone would soak that long, but whatever. Also, I believe boiling would cause more harm than good, due to any plastics that are contained in the atomizer. (I'm not sure if there are any, but if so, melty-melty
)
Try the 5 minute shake and 8 hour drain and call me in the morning. :P

Lack of Throat Hit
The throat hit, or lack of one has always been a problem for me. I vape only 0 nic and all of the juices, pre-mixed or my own batches were all the same, some flavor but no jolt. That is until...
I now add 4 drops of Tabasco Sauce to every 30 mil batch that I mix. It has no effect on the flavor but will give me all of the hit that I could ever want. Give it a try...

legpro,
I have the same problem, I use the 510 and I find that after 5 or 6 good hits it need to cool down, but I don't want to wait so my work-around is to carry 2 510's and swap as needed.

New cart of any sort (mod, not modded, straw, fluval, teabag, whatever) and 36 mg. liquid. There's a world of difference in 24 and 36 to me.

Tobasco has a lot of solids in it that will carbonize on your atty coil, killing it much more quickly. There's a video around here where someone got a pepper extract that seems to work and wouldn't have all the solids in it. I'd look into that. If you stick with Tobasco, I'd recommend cleaning your atty much more often than most people do.

Here is a further suggestion for testing if you don't want to order a bottle of red pepper extract online.
As far as the tabasco:
First, I agree, anything that is not clear has too much solids in it, that will not vaporize and will gum up and destroy the unreplaceable wick of your atomizer.
There are much stronger commonly available hot sauces at, for example, an international grocery, like Dave's Insanity Sauce.
Get something fantastically hot, and then strain it through coffee filters until you end up with a clear liquid. Then you may wish to add some VG or PGA to that to thin it back some.
Or, get a fresh Habanero, blend it on liquify with a little PGA, let it sit for several days, and strain THAT through a coffee filter. However, I would say treat Habaneros almost as carefully as you would nicotine. Habanero juice can put your eyes out, swell your throat shut, etc. in concentration. It's one of if not the hottest peppers in the world. Then, thin that down before trying to use it. If a drop of it on your tongue is too hot to stand, it is probably too concentrated.
Try that in moderation; I would not want you to have a coughing fit.
