Default What exactly produces the throat hit?

Can anyone explain the science behind it? Is it the juice, the atomiser? Out of the eight or so 901 atomisers I have tried only two seem to be giving a good throat hit. I wonder if its because they need more priming and time to kick in?

dunno.. its one of the e smoking mysteries.. he he..

i think a nice big dose of vapour helps get it.. many e cigs dont provide this right from the word go.. strong liquid probably helps but again i have never used low nic stuff so cant say for sure..

as the day passes both hit and taste seem to diminish for me.. the first part of the day seems to produce more of both..

Does the size of the coil in the atomiser make a difference? Some are wider than others.

no not really.. we think the 901 has the most "bite".. it runs its atomizer quite hot.. a littler harsher than the classic type which is more mellow..

but copious quantities of vapour is what we aim at.. two things help my brain think its getting something.. visible signs of vapour and the so called throat bite.. it needs lots of convincing.. he he he

Trog is right on this regarding a big dose of vapour helps this . as this is proved while using a kiss box with manual switch or the screwdriver. Pre-brewing the liquid makes a difference to vapour plus giving more kick. Plus your not having to pre-prime puff . like with normal electronic cigarettes.

I use a kiss-box with an auto-switch (but take many shorter puffs from it), even with the low strength liquids you can get a fairly decent kick as long as you get enough vapour going.

That's why you use the manual switch to save keep taking primer drags. Press the button for a few seconds while then dragging on it then the jobs done more vapour and bigger kick.

i have developed a habit ned of simply pressing by S/D button and taking two or sometimes three drags all in one go without letting the button go..

possible a bad habit from the atomizer life point of view but it certainly produces plenty of vapour.. he he

It could be to do with a combination of things, these all seem to make a difference:
how hot the atomiser gets, some burn hotter than others
nicotine content
pH levels of the vapour, alkaline vapour gives more hit
additives in juice (such as pepper)

I find if I half cover the inlet hole on the atomiser of my 901 I get a stronger hit. Certainly for the "prime puff" Obviously this lets less air into the mixture. I can then vape normally afterwards. This acts abit like a manual switch and heats up the coil. IMHO
