PG is used as anti-freeze, a non-toxic anti-freeze. That does not make
PG bad for you, its simply a property of
PG.
just like saline

I smoked American Spirit Menthols for 10 years. I still coughed and wheezed like an asthmatic. I DID have less phlegm than when I smoked Salems, but I actually coughed MORE from American Spirits.
Thinking American Spirit cigs are safer for you than regular cigs is like being in line at a public mass beheading and when it comes to your turn in the guillotine, insisting they change the blade to a fresh one so you don't contract any blood borne diseases...

David Sweanor (has worked with numerous companies and organisations, including the International Union Against Cancer, World Health Organization, World Bank and the Pan American Health Organization, on the issue of tobacco harm reduction. He has received both international recognition and prestigious prizes for his work) :
"In comparison with smoking, experts perceive at least a 90 percent reduction in the relative risk" of low-nitrosamine smokeless-tobacco use. This makes sense, since it is the 4,000 ingredients in the smoke that make a cigarette so lethal. Or, as the tobacco-policy expert David Sweanor, who teaches law and medicine at the University of Ottawa, puts it, "It's the smoke, stupid." http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/18/ma...wanted=9&fta=y
"If there is anyone who believes cigarettes are no more hazardous than e-cigarettes I’d recommend a remedial course in basic sciences."

Loose - Loose situation!!!!!!!!
With 'know-it-alls' it will always be a no win situation. Be polite, thank them for their concern, state your preference, and limit your conversation with them to as little as possible. This will drive them nuts!
Whatever they say, just respond with a "Really(?!), thank you for your concern. I appreciate that." Then turn a go into another room. If you can stand firm with this limited exchange they will excalate making them look even crazier to everyone else and you will look like the saint.
I've used this for years and love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wendy,
I feel for you having a sister-in-law like her who doesn't want to listen to anything. It is all so elementary. Anyway, I like SheerLuck's approach to people like her. Dont waste your time and energy.
On a side note - It was my Brother who introduced me to ecigs. He bought one (on impulse) in the Mall from SE. Once home, he got online and found better places to buy. FYI my Brother is a vaper, a member of this forum, and is a Pharmacist. He has worked in various areas of his field, in capacities ranging from Staff Pharmacist to Director. He has worked in retail, in Hospitals, and Home Infusion services. His endorsement is all I need. He knows firsthand about PG, VG, and Glycerin. He knows about their properties and what happens to the under heat.
I don't need anything more than that.

I hope your day goes well!

Wendy --
This thread was really interesting to me because I have smoked American Spirits for the same reasons everyone else started smoking them -- thinking that they contain less harmful "stuff." Until I read this thread I didn't realize how disingenuous the A.S. marketing campaign is...FROWN
I can certainly sympathize about having to deal with irritating know-it-alls. People like that cling to their inaccuracies for dear life. The closer they are to realizing they're being proven wrong, the more face they must save, and the harder they cling. It's often a losing battle. Better, perhaps, you should try persuading your brother instead (and maybe in some place where his wife isn't available to interrupt and side-track the discussion!).
Two thumbs up to another participant's suggestion about providing your brother with a filter that can demonstrate -- graphically -- part of what's coming out of that smoke. I was once flamed a bit here for supposedly "spamming" the forum with info about a particular filter, but I'm going to post about it again -- with a disclaimer that I have NO connection to the company in question except as a user of their product (and no interest in promoting smoking or tobacco products!). The product is called "TarGard" and is available both from on-line vendors and the manufacturer's own web site. I won't post the link (in case that is against the rules here) but a Google search for targard will turn up the site quickly. (There are other such products that can be found at smoke shops. I tried several; I ended up preferring the targard.)
I'd strongly recommend getting the clear disposable filters rather than the opaque white ones. After only one cigarette has been filtered with that thing, your brother will see how much tar or other brown gunk was trapped within it. I'd begun wanting to quit tobacco and really wanted to quit after being shocked big-time, seeing those little "ribbons" of tar trapped in the filter. At about that time I learned about e-cigarettes -- fortunate timing...
Once your brother understands how much gunk is going into his lungs with each regular cigarette, methinks he's going to have to get a bit tough with his wife. Whether or not future research finds something not entirely healthy in e-cig vapor given current e-liquid formulations, still there's no way they could be more harmful than cigarette smoke! (As with another participant here: I don't order my wife around and would be big-time ticked off if she tried to do that to me!)

I had a sister-in-law who was one of those know-it-alls. Luckily for me, she was also dumber than a box of rocks, so I didn't have to strain any brain cells proving her wrong, which I could do on 95% of the topics she spoke about.
Sounds like you may have a tougher cookie on your hands, though. I wish you the best!

Hi all, first post. I did not read all the responses so if I duplicate what has already been said please forgive me.
I smoke American Spirit cigs, have for many years. Yes they have a great clean smoke in comparison to many other analogs, however their claims are misleading, especially the additive/addictive free claims. While they don't add the fillers and junk most the others do, they are actually a more potent tobacco with MORE natural free-base nicotine than a Marlboro red. I read once in a study out of OHSU it's in the neighborhood of 3 times more free-base nicotine in an American Spirit than a Marlboro Red.
As for being better than vaping, carcinogenic smoke produced by a tobacco plant that has numerous "natural" poisons contained in the smoke vs water vapor.
