Surely it's Crash's prerogative to do what he likes with something he owns?

Thanks. I've seen the pictures, now I can put hacksaw back in tool box. Curiosity cured....

Well when you have 20 $150 mods you can afford to hack one or two up for fun... WTF. I think I would have tried to get it apart using something other than a hack saw. Like, maybe a SCREWDRIVER.

you can get them apart without a hacksaw.. he he
we were i think talking about wires or no wires.. the implication being given by you that no wires are better..
i said a solid metal device with no wires could have its problems if a direct short circuit occurred with the battery.. direct short circuits do occur..
check this thread for details..
failed atomizers and why.. crushed grommets.. - ECigScrewdriver
the thin spring circuit board and wire connection does serve the purpose of stopping the short circuit before the battery explodes.. it acts like a fuse.. we could remove it but deliberately choose not to..
these batteries do explode when subjected to a short circuit.. the short circuit is caused by folks continually swapping atomizers about and attempting to screw then in too tight... i have seen the use of pliers or self grip wrenches advised on this place..
we get around two shorted out (melted springs and burned out circuit boards) SDs back per week.. caused by the soft grommets in the atomizer failing.. we repair and ship these back out at our own expense even tho the cause is not our fault.. the repair isnt an easy one it does require the the SD being dismantled and new circuit board and spring fitted.. we have ways of doing this without a hacksaw... he he
we try and tell our customers not to over tighten atomizers.. but we cant allow for some of the advice given out on this place..
we have tried to get a battery to explode in an SD.. we have never succeeded the spring and circuit board always fails before the battery explodes..
okay you have forced the issue here crash... exploding batteries in e cigs are a danger.. this is also why we dont attempt to use larger 18650 ones or a pair of them to go the higher voltage route that is so well spoken off here.. the bigger the battery or the greater number of batteries the greater the danger
our Mk 11 Screwdriver which will arrive soon and be distributed in large numbers by TW and TECC has had a specially designed 18350 battery made for it that contains a low melting point metal device built in to stop the battery ever exploding.. call it a build in fuse if you like..
happy now dude.. he he
trog
ps... the so called protected lithium cells are not protected against direct short circuits occurring.. simply against over or under charging.. the only battery made that is protected against direct short circuits is the one we have had specially made for our Mk 11 screwdriver..
ps..2.. if you carry one loose in you pocket with loose change or keys.. these batteries do a grand job of really setting your pants on fire and scaring the sh-t out of you.. very amusing for the onlookers watching some dude dropping their smoking pants and jumping up and down in panic.. having been this dude i know... he he he

Does anything here help anyone identify any special circuitry in the original torch?

I'm sure the PC board was in there already and only left there to hold the spring. Crash, the ScrewDriver was put together by hand. I'm sure there must be a way to take it back apart without destroying it. Ya think?
