I've just come off handmades. I was smoking Golden Virginia which is a little bit stronger and fuller flavoured than Amber Leaf. I was also using filters.

I found the 14mg e-Juice, which came with the e-cig, was a little light to begin with, but after a couple of days, it's fine.

    :-)

Hi thanks for the comments and ideas.

I think she will be fine on the 14mg or even maybe 11mg , I have just dropped down to 14mg from 18mg and am not noticing any difference.

This is from the back of an American Spirit rolling tobacco bag.

    Thin 5.2mm diameter = 0.7-1.0mg nicotine
    Thick 7.2mm diameter = 1.3-1.6mg nicotine

Quite shocking how much unfiltered nicotine I'd been pumping into myself, not to mention all the other crap. And wannabe quitters say rollies are easier to quit from, I call tosh on that.

They certainly are not a low nicotine or tar option. One common argument is that they contain less additives than pre-made cigarettes. I probably agree with this. Its been posted on here how companies developed additives just to increase the effect of nicotine (so a 1mg nicotine cig could have much more of a hit than its rating suggests).

Can't post links yet, hope this works...
From the test posted above, the mean results per "Fine Cut Smoking Article" (per roll up) were:

    Amber Leaf - Nicotine 1.19mg - Tar 12.7mg
    Cutters Choice - Nicotine 1.02mg - Tar 13.8mg
    Drum - Nicotine 0.79mg - Tar 11.7mg
    Golden Virginia - Nicotine 1.27mg - Tar 14.3mg
    Old Holborn - Nicotine 1.00mg - Tar 13.1mg

All tests were done on the "thin" specification, as they say this is more representative of the typical UK smoker.

One of these "thin" rollies is standardised at 400mg tobacco (0.4g). Therefore a 12.5g packet (referred to as a "half ounce" but actually short of this measure) at this spec would make 31 rollies. Obviously with these there is huge variation in the construction.

Well I met her today and she is going for a 901 & simon e-cigs Like Smoke 14mg.

Did not like the Bulldog - Hilton - Cigar - French pipe or pre-filled carts.

My dad smokes Golden Virginia rollies, I did not realise it had that much Nicotine 1.27mg and Tar 14.3mg

Thanks to you all for the input.

50 grams is 1.8 oz, quite a difference

Wow, it was hard to find but I finally found the contents of Amber Leaf.
    Nicotine: 1.3mg/g Tar: 15mg/g
So half an ounce of Amber Leaf contains 18.51mg nicotine.

the other figures suggest roughly 40-ish mg dont they.. which does kinda fit with my ex half an ounce of golden virginal per day habit turning into two or three ml of 24mg liquid per day..

18 mg per half ounce dosnt match..

i did squeeze the last smidge of nicotine out of my half an ounce.. thin prison type rollies not big fat wasteful ones..

    trog

ps.. my eldest son used to roll big fat ones and get thru up to 1.5 ounces per day.. he did literally throw away in a butt more than i smoked.. he now uses roughly the same amount of e liquid that i do..

I don't know what you mean.
You mean half an ounce of tobacco would contain 40mg nicotine?
Half an ounce= 14.17 grams. 40 divided by 14.17= 2.82mg nicotine per gram which wouldn't be even legal to sell.
I think you have to accept the fact that you've tripled or even quadrupled your nicotine intake with e-smoking

Yo Han, the figures above were from a UK Government lab test. It is an ISO test. "Thin" spec rollies are made up of: 400mg tobacco, a standardised paper and made with a standardised rolling machine.. "Thick" rollies are made using 750mg tobacco and a different paper.

These are then smoked in a prescribed way using a smoking machine. The contents of the smoke is then analysed. Its basically the same test as all cigarettes have to be put through to get the tar and nicotine ratings.

From this test, a 400mg tobacco roll up was yielding 1.27mg nicotine with Golden Virginia when smoked. Smoking is not a hugely efficient way of getting nicotine from tobacco. If you were to chemically extract nicotine from 400mg of the same tobacco with 100% efficiency, I'm quite sure that more than 1.27mg would be in it.
