Default Anybody got a good quitting strategy?

So I've been using ecigs since June of this year, and I do like them...just apparently not enough. I got into it with the idea in my head that I could use it to quit, but I haven't exactly been successful. I know that ecigs aren't really intended or shouldn't be considered a quit smoking device but also many on this forum have used them to quit successfully.

My question is how? Did you guys wean yourselves off real cigs, or quit completely and go to the ecig?

I seem to go for a day or so using an ecig and then go back to regular. I also notice that I smoke pretty much non-stop when I use ecigs...is it best to put yourself on a schedule...ie, only smoke after certain time limits..

I'm just curious if there was a definite plan behind it...or just willpower.

what are u trying to quit.. nicotine or tobacco.. i still have the odd roll up.. i could manage without but dont see the odd one as a problem..

but all i am trying to do (have done) is quit excessive tobacco consumption.. something i find easy with a device that works..

however quiting nicotine.. i would not even try.. i will die being a nicotine user (addict) i am quite sure..

It just happened with me, I didn't intend to quit, I had tried damn near every method before and failed, so I had accepted I was a smoker. I got the e-cig out of curiosity and wondered if I could use it at work to save the long trek outside. I just seemed to use it more and more then one day I ran out of cigs, it was really raining outside, so I just thought I would stick to the e-cig. Never smoked again, had a couple of pangs and miss the first morning smoke but not really willpower...

Smoked for about 35 years 30-40 a day and it's gone. I'm in no doubt if the authorities made e-cigs illegal, I'd be back on tobacco instantly, I'm still an addict.

I'm doing the weaning off thing. When i started vaping I would still have a few cigarettes a day--bought a pack every three or four days. One day (3 weeks in or so), I smoked a bunch at a party, felt awful the next morning, and since then (almost a week now) I've bummed 3 analogs and dropping. The main thing is to become so lazy that when you run out you'd rather vape than go to the store for more cigarettes.

I smoked for 35 years and quit recently by using Chantix. After 5 months, I started again but only at work. My wife would be very dissappointed in me if she ever found out. I found these e-gigs and started with the n-joy mini. It was great at first, then turned into a dissappointment. Since starting with the DSE901b, I have not had a regular cig. for 2 months, and I don't miss them at all. I have since ordered the Janty mini fogger, but I will still rely on Jane's "Kick" juice for the mini fogger. Both Jane, and Katy (smokeless shop), have been a Godsend to me. Hope this helps.

I'd not worry too much about it Phil. If vaping reduces your smoking then that's progress.

I gave up completely when starting e-cigs and I can still find it hard.

The predictable 'pangs' I can manage no problem - like after dinner and first thing in the morning. But those 'pangs' come at other times when you don't expect. The only thing I've learned is that they're short-lived - and still shorter if you take a vape. It's only knowing this that hasn't me back smoking. The 'pangs' are worse after weeks of giving up - in the first weeks I reckon determination doesn't give them a look in.

In the words of a rather well-known politician here - "they haven't gone away you know!"

I'd suggest putting analogues in places that'll take effort to reach and don't waste time kicking yourself if you have a smoke. Smoking less is good too.
