    Default What I'm looking for.

Ok, it's getting about time to go ahead and buy my first unit. I'm looking for
inputs from folks with experience on what may meet my needs.

    1. 510 model
    2. I'm not interested in Dripping, so a device that doesn't require it to get good vapor/taste
    3. Can utilize long-lasting batteries like the 3000mah models
    4. Manual control with a sturdy/reliable button
    5. Maintenance isn't a pain in the ass- easily cleaned, etc.
    6. I do not require an LED... I don't care to be lit up at night if I'm walking around with it.
    7. Any way to get metal cartridges? It seems they'd hold up longer than plastic.
    8. Not a pen-style. I'm not interested in looking like I'm holding a thermometer in my hand/mouth. I'm a geek, but not a Harry Potter, magic-wand wielding geek.
    9. Whistle/Pipe tip mouthpiece. I don't care for the round one... I miss my pipe.
    10. And lastly, a military discount would kick ass.

Some models I've been impressed with from reading about them:
    1. The Chuck. Simply because it's customizable with your choice of artwork.
    2. GLV because it has a straight 5v model (the supposed sweet spot according to almost everything I've read), and I like the design- where the button is placed, ect.
    3. Silver Bullet. It's shiny, meh... but the button system really attracts me.

So there ya go. Help me choose a device that fits.
(Any bashing or B.S., no experience comments will get the poster put on ignore.)

Well you need to start off with a 510, i recommend this one:

    Joye 510 NO BOX

cheapest starter set for a 510 (since you want bigger batteries, i can but the 510 batts off of you)

as for a metal cartridge, i havent seen one, you might have ot make one.

can use a 3000 batt with a 510, as well as a manual switch on the batt, i recommend this one:

UltraFire 18650 3.7V 3000mAh Lithium Battery [UltraFire 18650] - $6.42 : High Tech DealZ, Simplifying the LASER Hobby!

then you can easily set up a case and the wiring (check out the mod forum)

510s are easy to clean, not a hassle at all

not having an led is tricky, you can mod it yourself or simply spray paint it (what i did on one of mine and it works well)

the 510 isnt a pen so no worries there

and i highly recommend that you get a chuck, im in the process of ordering one.

    Hope that helped

Take a look at this mod review:

    http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/for...pv-review.html

    Then what is needed:

    http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/for...tml#post732483

... and depending on finances (they're about to get better depending what you're spending on cigarettes ;-) you might want to just get the no box 510 kit (rather than just two atomiziers) from cignot to start:

    Joye 510 NO BOX

and you can pick up the adapters there as mentioned in the link above.

Right now it's my favorite PV/mod/ecig... I have a few Janty Sticks, Protege, bunch of 510's with mega batts... used to have a supermini.... a few 901 parts and an 801 passthrough with attys..... The bart. out vapors all with the protege a close second. I take the bart. everywhere and it's loaded with my top vape - DV's habana reserve. A very good switch, an on/off switch for carrying, a built in charger and can be used as a passthrough. The battery lasts me a day under fairly heavy vaping but vaping the others - JS, 510's when I'm home for other flavors. I had the battery last a day and a half on a test where I didn't vape the others as much. Only maintenance is the atty but you'll have that with any. Running the straw mod in the cart:

    Cart Mod for better refilling

I use a 510 atty and 18650 3000mAh battery with my Prodigy with the 3.7v switch. For 5v vaping, you aren't going to be able to use 18650's. I also have the 5v switch for the Prodigy, but then I use 2 3v CR123's.

It meets most of your requirements. There are flat tip carts available for the 510 atty, if I'm not mistaken (I could be).

Oh... and at 5v you will want to drip. I don't think carts keep the atty wet enough for 5v.

The 510 does have whistle tips available. I just got a few and much prefer them over the round tips (makes me feel more sophisticated ). A 5V unit (I also like the look of the GLV although haven't tried it yet) with a 510 atomizer and the blue foam plug mod should do the trick for you. You will burn through more juice, but if you want the hit, vapor, and good delivery of nicotine, it comes at a trade-off price.

    Walrus,
Pick up some blue foam (marineland brand size "u" from your nearest pet store), fill the cart with juice only, then plug the top (not tightly either) with the blue foam. I have tried every cart mod mentioned in these forums, and then some. It works better then dripping, you do not have to guess on how saturated the bridge is like you do when dripping. Works awesome and a few bucks gets you enough blue foam for thousands of plugs (they are re-usable (I have yet to replace one)). It is definitely worth trying out.

Ok folks, thanks for the replies.
I've decided I'm going to start with The Chuck. I want my wolf graphic on my first
device, and they really do appear to be solidly built. I just need to find out how long it's
going to take to get it in. He makes them on a first-come, first-serve basis. We'll see if I
can hold out that long (I'm getting itchy).

    EDIT:
Hey, Winace, I almost went with the GLV. I REALLY like the button placement on it. It
definitely looks like it would be comfortable and easy to get used to. I chose The Chuck because
after deciding I REALLY want a 'wolf' device and Jeff has been pretty good about getting back
to me on my questions. As a noob, it's important I have that level of open dialogue until I get to the point that I can figure this stuff out for myself. (Hopefully, not long after I get my first device for some hands-on)
