You could make something yourself if you have the skills to make something that'll work and last, but the average person here doesn't have those skills. The APC pack from Fry's is pretty worth it even if you DO have the skills, I think. 15 bucks for a good solid ready-made device from a reputable company.
And, being Li-Ion at 10Wh, it'll last much longer than those 2600mAh ni-mh batteries.

Plus if it goes bad in the first year you have a warranty with APC.. so I would go with the $14.99 device with a 1 year warranty in my opinion. I would love to be technically minded like some of you guys, but I went to school for Mass Communications. The most technical thing I had to learn was how to change a fuse out on a 25 channel mixer board. Ohh well maybe in my next life.

I will have to try this battery pack...

I've actually made a nimh battery pack for a 901 before, with a spent battery connector and casing, and i still bought the white battery pack w/ black leather sleeve off ebay because i don't feel like making one.
I even have the rechargeable aa's, i just use them in my remote for the television now.
In other news, i have an rn4072 w usb, and i am definitely having a lot of, "Wow that was a lot of vapor" moments.

yeah I just got my Penstyle Usb Passthrough from Steve A couple days a go.. and I have to be careful, I keep Inhaling too much and then get that Vapors cough, plus with the usb Passthrough I never know how hot the atomizer gets until the vapor gets really hot. It's a completely different vape I tell you, alot more vapor!

wrong it will not last much long at all.. mostly the figures on these packs are like most chinese figures pure nonesense.. the packs have rubbish batteries in them that do not have the claimed capacity..
but the NiMh cells at 2500 mah work out at 12 watt hour anyways.. you could use 3000 mah ones that would be 14.4 watt hours..
now the average 130 mah 901 e cig battery works out at 0.52 watt hours..
so the 3000 NiMh packs would have 27.6 times the run time of the normal 901 battery.. if that aint long enough nothing is..
trog
ps.. all i am saying is what is needed to power an e cig.. plus how cheaply something can be made with a modicum of skills.. me i aint into wires period.. so none of the wired options cut the mustard for me..

Yeah, the battery life on nimh is not a good argument against it. I was using a 3xaa battery pack on my 901 and it would last like, 3 days of heavy vaping.

You're right trog, I just did that math again, I'm not sure what I was doing the first time. Then again I suck at math to begin with so that could be it.

trog....you still around?
Before all the recent hype on the usb ecigs...when I was (frantically!) trying to figure out how to power mine without the computer...I bought one of those cheap 4aa battery usb adapters. Well, for reasons I understand now, it didn't work with the 4 alkaline batts I had on hand so someone suggested trying the rechargeable batts.
Last week, while in walmart, I picked up an energizer charger, which claims to charge nimh batts in 15 minutes. I also picked up an 8 pack of 2450 mah rechargeable aa batts. I haven't opened anything yet.
I prefer regular batts to the battery packs...and don't want anything that takes all night to recharge.
So my queestion...would you say the power in the batts I bought are better...or at least comparable to the battery packs they are talking about here? Would like to know before I open and start using it.
BTW...wish I could make that mod you mentioned below....but I really have no clue

Lu what they don't tell you however, is that fast charging Ni-MH trashes the battery life.
This is why I went with Powerex batteries (the best) & recharger kit, which does it slower at 3 hours but these things last almost forever
