Default So how does it feel to be outcasted by even smokers!!!

I thought i would do a followup thread about what i learned the past week.
I did a thread about how many vapers you have actually seen around you. You know, our small little community...
Well i just got it through my head and am facing the facts that even the smokers that i know don't want me to vape with them or around them... ha, funny but true.. I smoked for maybe 30+ years and when i found vaping i said i would never treat the smokers like the way non smokers treated me. Well since Vaping i am still not liked by non-smokers, and now not appreciated by smokers. They basically feel like i turn coat on them.. You know joined the other side. I didn't join the other side, i started a new side. The bass player in my band said either you smoke a cigarette or you don't. Anyway the point is, We are breaking ground here and i myself will vape for life.. It's fun, tasty and makes me happy.. oh well. Welcome to Vaping USA....

Sucks about your bass player. Maybe in time?

I've only had a few people give me negative vibes about vaping. I have non-smoker friends who are great with me vaping, but they always ask "so when are you going to quit that?"... I guess as soon as people start getting cancer from it... My smoker friends are pretty cool with it, converted two already... soon I'm going to be the majority in my little circle. STILL won't hate on the smokers.

Just snicker to yourself confident that you're the more intelligent one. The harcore anti-smokers are in most cases not educated enough on vaping to realize that if they knew what they were talking about they'd want every smoker in America to switch! The hardcore analog users aren't educated enough on vaping to realize that they could have all the satisfaction they currently have for a fraction of the health concerns, odor, litter and be spending 1/2 of what they currently are. Personally I vape proudly and with the intention of making sure everyone knows I'm not holding a cigarette in the hopes that they'll ask what the heck it is! Of course I'm also more than prepared for someone to challenge me with their knowledge on the topic and actually look forward too it. (regarding the health concerns that is not all the various models etc..)So far no negative reactions for me from the general public aside from a few very confused looks. The most common thing I get is overhearing people say "I don't think it's a cigarette, I can't smell it" but they rarely ask me!

You know tdwave, you make an interesting point. After 30 days of vaping and no analogs I thought that everyone that knows me would be happy for me, supportive, knowing that I quit smoking and most are, but I also get negative vibes from a few. Their first response to it is always the same thing "But you're still getting the nicotine so what good is it?"

Their comments make me feel like I've accomplished nothing, changed nothing, done nothing even remotely worthwhile. And yes, it's always the non-smokers, the ones that either never did smoke or are former smokers, they just don't seem enthused one bit. And yes, I've gotten that other similar comment "Well I quit cold turkey."

So, all I do is tell them that I thought they would be more supportive and happy for me that I've really quit smoking, but that's ok, I feel good about myself. It's almost the same as hearing that "self-righteous non-smoking attitude" that at times made me want to smoke more, never quit, and be less courteous about doing it anywhere near them.

In a way, I too feel a bit left out, an outcast once again. But honestly, I could care less. Unfortunately it's the world we live in, this "politically correct society" bullcrap we live in and hear about on a daily basis just burns my old butt sideways.

I think what vaping is doing is a good thing for society in general but there are just too many arrogant and ignorant ones who unless they benefit from it personally, they just automatically object to it.

    Ok, off the soap box...

I quit instantly with my first vape on 4 November 2009. Thank You ECF!

I totally agree with the "turncoat" feeling you are getting from some people, I have felt that as well. I've also groups of smokers where one is curious and when I start explaining, other smokers are negative. I have also come across people who have been curious about them. Most of my non-smoker friends also ask when I'll quit vaping. We'll see...for now, I enjoy it and haven't read much bad about nicotine other than what you read about caffeine though we'll see what comes of the other stuff in the nicotine juice.

Thanksgiving was interesting this year. Of the 7 family members that usually attend, 5 are ex-smokers, we all sat around IN THE HOUSE vaping - it was fabulous=)

I usually get asked a million questions every time I bust it out. People seem generally interested in it and want to know more. Non-smokers usually ask the most questions and are generally very impressed with it and think I made a great choice. Almost every smoker I've shown wants one now too. The people that are close to me I let try it (not afraid of my family's germs...) and they like it.

I've been asked the nicotine thing too. "Is that really gonna do anything to help you quit when there is still nicotine it?". I just tell them that I don't plan on quitting nicotine. I liked smoking before they went to FSC and now I love vaping. I never wanted to quit and that's why I never could. I knew smoking was bad for me and that it cost way to much, but I liked it to much and had no means to replace it till I found ecigs. I explain to them that nicotine is no more dangerous than caffeine and that the poison is in the tobacco. The nonsmokers get excited that I'm off the bad stuff and the smokers want one even more.

Ignore the haters. Vaping is a good thing.

I haven't run into any of that. Even my friends/family who had to quit "the hard way" are supportive of my vaping. The ones with "no smoking" homes are cool if I vape there.

The OP may need to find a new bass player, because musicians shouldn't have such closed minds.

Im a bass player and I cant believe he would say something like that. A vocalist yes, but not a bassist.
Id tell him "Just like cigarettes, I could easily replace you with something better."
