The Duracell is misleading if you do not know mA from mAh
A close look at the The Duracell package said 5V 1000mAh. It does not state the mA on the package. We need 1000mA --the mHA goes to the longivity capacity. The mA is the output we need on for it to work. My current battery pack has an output of 5v - 1000mA and a rating of 3000mAH. So do not let the mAh fool you--it is the mA that you need to be 1000mA or 1 amp--Sun

I agree Sun! Their own spec sheet says it powers and recharges most usb devices. It's a little confusing....http://www.duracelldirect.com/docs/d..._specsheet.pdf

No, a battery pack will do it, just not that one he linked to.
Lu,
You always said 1000 mah necessary to power a regular passthrough..I have that embedded in my brain! just weird this Duracell says it but doesn't do it..
When these were first being discussed (remember when?), it was common that the acronym "mah" was used rather than "ma". The point then was to look at the output. As long as it said 1000...or 1A....it was good to use. Whenever a poster listed a device to try, we would look at the specs to make sure it was sufficient.
But as more and more researched these things, it got more and more confusing using the "mah" and "ma" terms....I myself still use the mah most times because I got used to it and everyone then knew what I was talking about...lol
You can read Sun's post on it. I don't think I have to rewrite the same thing. But yes, 1000ma, not mah. And never buy anything you can't find the specs on.

I'm getting an electrical engineer degree between Sun, Lu & Trogg..!
Thanks for all your patience!
and Lu..Di posted 5hrs for the battery to go down..when no powersource to recharge!

Really? Well good to know that. Thanks Misty!
And in case anyone is interested....Misty is referring to the battery in the KB and Yang's manual passthroughs. It will last 5 hours on its own (if fully charged to begin with, I would imagine).

an e cig needs about 1000 ma to work the coil heater coil.. which is like a mini electric fire element..
pretty much any rechargeable battery pack that isnt simply an alkaline pack will provide enough power.. in fact most will provide much more..
but a lot of these things like the one i mentioned are not battery packs.. they are battery "recharger" packs.. designed to charge the batteries in say an ipod or mobile phone.. but not to power it directly..
a PC USB socket will power things directly.. its also only rated at 500 ma which kinda puts a lie to the claimed to be needed 1000 ma..
trying to charge one of those little janty inline batteries at 1000 mah will kill it by the way..
this little thing is a simple battery pack.. very cheap and could with the right batteries in be used to directly power an e cig.. three 1.2 volts metal hydride or ni cad cells would do.. or one single 3.7 volt AA sized lithium cell...
DealExtreme: $3.80 AA-Battery USB Emergency Backup Power and Charger Pack

ps... just ordered two of them to look at.. and if the bloody pound tanks any more i am gonna have to stop buying all this stuff from DX... he he he

So the Verdict is ?
So the verdict is now that the Duracell instant power , will not power a Usb passthrough unless it has a inline battery ?? if this is the case I'm kinda glad I picked up the Xantrex power pack as it is a 2hr backup for laptops so there is lots of power for my passthrough
just too big to cart around in your pocket .
here is a link to alot of other links on where to buy the Xantrex
Xantrex XPower PowerSource Mobile 100 DC to AC power inverter - 160 Watt
this thing has enough power that you could run a ipod, zune , psp off of it and also vape at the same time !! Also comes with a adapter to plug in on a flight , and has a car charger plug also .

Yeh, I've never understood this. I never knew what ma my laptop was. When I found out, I could not understand how that worked but other 500ma sources did not. I guess I still don't get it....just another one of those electrical things I'll probably never understand

I charge mine on a battery charger I got from dealextreme. Works great.

At the very begining, I purchased something similar off ebay. It used 4AA batts and it worked. I used it for awhile, until I got my APC....then I switched. I didn't switch because of performance issues....more for size preferences. The APC just happens to be thinner and a lot lighter. I suppose, though, that wouldn't matter if you were using it only at home anyway.
Oddly enough....my Sedansa has a battery power pack accessory that runs on only 3AAs. But that seems to work well too.
Can't seem to post this thing without something down here. Weird!

In case any of you guys want to see the inside of this Duracell. I'm thinking if this is actually only a supplement to a rechargeable battery maybe the silver piece in the middle is a capacitor and not a battery. I don't know.
-
that's a LiIon pack.
my 2 cents
mAH stands for milliAmpere Hour which is capacity of the pack or discharged at supposed miliAmp this pack will last theoretically for an hour.
So look for mA or A as that's the discarge capabilities of the pack.
1000mA = 1A
