4 Freshly charged NiMH cells can put out as much as 5.6v. Rechargeables are dirt cheap these days, I've got stacks of the things. The output current would be the same as what the batteries give. 4.8v + I'd get one if I had a passthrough battery. I'm waiting for someone to come out with one for the M401/402/403
