Would be a nice post for the Quitting section. I think it's important for some folks to be able to find odes like this.

| Nasty isn't a good enough word to describe them. I had to smoke them in NY before I moved and they were awful. Use to get sick all the time from them.

| Yeah, fire safe cigs, but what's different about them compared to regular cigs?

Fire safe cigarettes are being used by Marlboro and soon other tobacco companies to prevent fire damage from smokers who throw their cigarettes into grass, trash cans, fall asleep and cigarette drops on the bed, etc. Around 1000 people die a year in the US because of fires caused by improper disposing of cigarettes. The paper that is used to manufacture these new cigarettes are made using bumps/ridges along it so if it is not inhaled it won't keep burning because when it reaches the next bump it will burn out in about two minutes. So basically if you drop your cigarette or throw it, you won't be inhaling it so it will slowly burn until it reaches the next ridge and it won't be able to burn past it and will burn out. Problem is when you are smoking socially and take a hit every few minutes you have to keep lighting up again and it smells terrible. I believe there is new legislature in effect as of 2005 or 2006 that mandates future cigarettes to have fire safety. Another thing is the paper is also more expensive to manufacture, therefore cigarette prices will be going up not to mention the increases in taxing lately it will be going up a lot.

That's the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Cig companies are coming out with the stupidest products. Like the SNUS pouches. Like snuff but not. lol. 6 pouches for 1.80. I could go through 6 puches in a couple hours.

Fire Safe cigs - ewwwww! Sounds horrible - yet another example of how the mfg's in this country are legally bound to keep us all protected from ourselves.. Think I'm going to follow Zonko the Sane's example and build an asylum for the poor, insane world. Glad I'm off the analogs - funeral services will be held next week for my poor Basic Menthol Ultra Lites

i've had several of these fire safe cigs burn completely down when left in the ashtray. (marlboro light 100s). imho theyre going to cause more fires due to people thinking theyre "safe". grassfire in Oklahoma (a state that has required all cigarettes to be "fire safe" since Jan 1st). Believed to be caused by cigarette http://www.disasternews.net/news/art...articleid=3847 |
