Default perfect coils just don't cut it!!!

i love the pene and the oddy but they are starting to drive me insane.

only one out of 10 coils i make seems to work like it should and its really pissing me off right now.

i'm at the point where i wind them up and they seriously look factory made... spotless. no hot spots, perfect and even spacing, no touching... the lot. i never thought i'd make such nice coils but there... i've done it only they keep tasting burnt time after time after time.

I try winding them loosely, tight, moderate, .15 all thru .2 kanthal A on the stock wick... heating up the coil and sometimes the wick beforehand.... i'd like to stick to one wick right now, its not like i'm pumping serious power thru it and need more surface area.

this is driving me absolutely and utterly insane. anything past 5w feels burnt.

what i dont do is "break the coil in", since the few good ones i managed to do didnt even need it. besides, what if you dont have a VV and you're running at 1.5ohm or something.... how the hell do you break it in with 10-20w? thats a lot of skunk down your throat

wild guess but could it be the wick? i'm using the stock wick that came with them.

Just a thought but how long do you use the coils before you discard them?

Most of the resistance wires have a coating on them. You can burn the resistance wire with a lighter a few times until it turns red. Just move the lighter back and forth as a spot turns red. This will burn off the coating and you will get a much better initial taste from the wire. That taste does go away on it's own after a while.

Next question. When you say you taste burning does your wick actually look burned? Trying to figure out if you're not getting enough juice as that might be the other problem. Prime your wick with quite a bit of juice before you screw everything together. On top of the coil and down the channels as well. Always do that before firing the coil the first time.

hi there, i use the coils about a week i'd say

I always burn the resistance wire with a lighter.

I get the burnt taste from the get-go so the wick is hasnt had time to burn.

Juice can't be the problem either since it happens even during a very short draw like 2-3 secs with the LC cranked up all the way. that could even eliminate me strangling the wick by tightening the coil too much, which i believe i've learned not to do. Absolutely no hot spots either and i do prime everything before i put it back together.

what i noticed that i doubt matters is that the carbon buildup on the coil starts off in dots of carbon at random spots.

Not sure then. It's strange. I've never even looked for hotspots because I didn't think it was really an issue with these types of coils. I just wrap and go. My first few coils had some shorts because they NR negative wire was hitting the juice control but the short just made the ohms jump and didn't make it taste burned.

I'm sort of at a loss.

The only thing I could suggest is possibly trying a double or triple wick coil. Instead of only having one wick inside the ceramic wrapped in the wire, have two. Only one wick down the channels. Keeps a lot more juice under the coil and to me it's a very good vape. I haven't used a single wick in a very long time.

Sour.... Try using double 3mm wick(with a single in the wire channels). After I have mine built I wet the wick and do a 5 sec wet burn, add a couple drops and wet burn again. I repeat this 5-6 times. Make sure my draw isn't too stiff or too airy. Then I wet the wick, screw the mouthpiece all the way on and hit it a few times to check it before putting the tank on and filling. Hope this helps. Don't get frustrated. You'll get it and once you do the vape is amazing. Haven't had a dry or bad hit yet.

Maybe your problem is NR wire.
Do you use nickel wire for NR.

Anytime you're Penel is not feeding enough, just open the juice feed all the way, then close it all the way, and adjust the juice feed to the desired amount and it should force feed the wick. That should hold you over for a while if its feeding improperly, which this is what it sounds like.

What mod are you using? When I was using VariTubeX I had similar results particularly with Boba's Bounty. It boosts to 6v and uses PWM to simulate selected voltage. It caused Burt taste even set to 3v. Provari fixed problem with that juice.

i use A1-32 kanthal and .30 guage silver wire and i never had any problems with them( in almost all my build), after attaching the nr wires i make sure the length of the kanthal is almost 1 inch and with 4 wraps it gives me 1.4-1.8 ohms consistently
